What do you guys think about abstaining from cheese whilst losing.
I know I have issues moderating.

I think if you have issues moderating cheese, and you are wondering if you should abstain, then you might try cutting it out for a week and see what happens! I did the same thing with almonds and almond butter even on maintenance due to my lack of control with them!

I hear you about cheese! I am so afraid to start eating it again. I love that stuff!

Cheese is good, just don't overdo it. FULL-FAT and UNPROCESSED, too, by the way!

Maybe I need an Atkins refresher course. What's wrong with cheese?

Nothing is inherently "wrong" with cheese, Christina, but it should be the totality of your diet. After all it still has carbs in it and those can add up in higher amounts. I LOVE my cheese and wouldn't think of living without it EVERY SINGLE DAY. But for weight loss, it needs to be monitored.

THANKS for asking and welcome to my forum. It's good to have you here.

Oh yes, yes, I agree! Nothing wrong with cheese! My answer was more to the idea of "if you cant control your portions, then maybe a time out is a good idea"!
But in moderation, cheese is part of the LC diet!

I have to say that I'm a cheeseaholic. I eat any and all cheese ... by itself, in dishes, fried, microwaved, baked ... I even eat cheese dip on cheese crisps. It is the one thing that I feel I can depend on if I'm running late and can just grab a hunk-on-the-go. So...my first thought was, "huh, I need to cut back? Oh no, please, no!" (sigh)

Wouldn't do that to you! I'm right there with you on being a certified CHEESE-A-HOLIC!

I asked Dr. Michael Eades about this (www.proteinpower.com) and he said that, in his experience, cheese, nuts & nut butters have stalled more people than any other thing. Maybe because it's hard to stop once you've started. I'm trying to limit myself to 2 ounces a day of cheese, and one serving of nuts.

Welcome pythonesk! I'm so happy to have you at my forum and I agree with you about the addictiveness of cheese and nuts. But if you can portion out what you CAN have and not be impacted by it, then that's a good thing. Sure beats FAT-FREE CHEESE! EWWW!

There are definate moderation requirments of cheese on teh atkins plan.
I think it's like 130 grams in the 2002 edition.

I have to be careful. On Cheddar, I can eat the whole pound package in one sitting. Same goes for nuts. On my last go-round with Atkins I would eat the whole can of Macadamia nuts at a time. Slowed things down a bit and made my tongue peel. I am not doing nuts right now, (mac oil is not a nut!)

But Ido eat cheese. Full fat, shredded with my beef and a slice with my ham or turkey.

I have 2 strategies for keeping cheese consumption under control:
1. I tend to buy cheeses with stonger flavors, like smoked gouda, sharp cheddar, or pepper jack -I't's like milk chocolate vs 80% cocoa chocolate - a litle goes a long way.
2. I try to eat cheese with other things in eggs w/ fritattas and omlettes, on meat or my favorite - parmesean grated over steamed broccoli.
Though sometimes I still wind up munching on it straight out of the fridge LOL.

Wouldn't 130 grams be just over 4 ounces? If so, then I'm good (I hope!). Thanks for the feedback.
4 ounces is precisely what is recommended in the 1972 version of Atkins, so I wouldn't feel too bad if you don't notice these things slowing you down any!

Jimmy,
I agree--fat free cheese is the worst. Has no relationship whatsoever with real cheese.

I have the same problem with cheese. Once I start I can't stop (especially if it's melted cheese!) and eating it makes me crave crackers or chips to go with it! I was on Atkins Induction for the past 3 days and blew it all today--all because of cheese! So I think I'd be better off just leaving it out for now and then adding it back in slowly later.
I agree about the fat free cheese. Yukh! I'd rather not eat at all than eat that stuff.

I am very much the same.
PIZZA is my worst trigger food!

I think I would stay off cheese for induction- then you can monitor IF you can do the plan successfully with it. We ALL have our trigger foods!
