I have had about 6 false starts with Atkins.

I guess I need to get some serious appetite supression (KK) going and then do a shorter induction.

I live in Canada and my eldest daughter's boyfriend is here from Florida. He is in the US Air Force (We have 5 daughters ages 19,17,15,13, 12 BTW biggrin.gif )
We have been having alot of celebration meals and lots of snacks around...then this weekend my sister is here from British Columbia.
It has been tough. I have been taking my eye off the prize.

But...I haven't given up, nor will Iuser posted image

Hi Admom!

I can't offer advice about Atkins since I've not started that yet.....I'm still in the State of Confusion as you may have read. biggrin.gif

Anyway, I CAN relate a bit about the daughter and the celebration eating.....my oldest son will be here on Friday with his fiance. They are flying in from Australia for a short visit and are keen on having some good Mexican food. SOoooo.......I'll be tempted to the max (do people still SAY that? smile.gif ) when we eat out.

Maybe I'll think of you in solidarity!

Hi Admom,

Time to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off and go for it. You don't need Kimkins to do it. You need some serious Atkins induction, it will have the same effect on your appetite as Kimkins did, but your muscles will be protected. I don't remember if you have the book or not, but read it again if you do. You need to pump yourself up a little, do a little self "brainwashing" by immersing yourself in the information and imagine what you're going to look like 20 lbs. lighter. It's not too soon to start getting ready for the holidays. Good luck to you!

Above all, admom, make sure you EAT MORE FAT than K/E and get those calories to at least 1200. If you do that while keeping your carbs low, then you can't help but lose weight and start the transition to better health. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Admom7, IMHO you don't need to count anything but carbs.

You can start with lunch or supper today--and go for the rest of your life.

You don't need to get your appetite down to do this well. You are not trying to deprive yourself to a lower weight; you are trying to nourish your body to a better composition.

Eat a generous portion of meat at your very next meal. Add a salad or a vegetable.

If you are not full after that, have half-portion second helpings.

If you are hungry 2 hours later, do it again.

Atkins done right does *NOT* require any special appetite suppression efforts. If you are hungry, eat well, eat luxuriously, eat on-plan. Eat whatever amount of fat tastes best to you. Be generous with yourself.

The purpose of food is to *nourish*. Deprivation is not a realistic part of a healthy, long-term WOE.

Counting and percentages are an option, but is that *really* the way you want to live for the rest of your life? How you take it off is how you'll keep it off.

You don't need a Monday to start. You don't need a first-thing-in-the-morning to start. Now is the perfect time.

And celebration? There's nothing like a great piece of meat as the foundational food for a special celebration! My plan includes *everything* that I enjoy eating. My plan is just what I want for my birthday, for Thanksgiving, for Christmas, for my anniversary. Every time I want to celebrate, I have something delicious to eat.

Atkins is not deprivation. It is not trying real hard. It's about nourishing your body with delicious, wholesome, luxurious food--as much as you need to feel fully satisfied.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

With induction as long as you are keeping the carbs to 20g, the fat and the protein will take care of themselves as long as you choose the fattier cuts of meat. Eat dark meat poultry instead of breast meat, beef and pork preferably the fattier cuts not the loin cuts, eggs, bacon, sausage, butter, full fat salad dressings, some cheese. Have fun with it, you've been let out of jail and don't obsess too much. It's really a very easy diet. When you are hungry eat protein or fat. Don't worry about the calories, they really don't matter when you are eating this way, especially if you emphasize healthy fats.

If you eat what seems like a lot for a day or two I wouldn't worry about that either. Your appetite will calm down and you will achieve the same kind of appetite reducing Ketosis as when you were on Kimkins.

Admom --

I started Atkins yesterday, after eating every carb-laden thing I could get my hands on for two weeks while I decided whether Kimkins was worth it or not! I am the opposite of you: I would probably be better off if I looked at ratios of fat to protein to carbs. . . I spend my entire workday immersed in data, so the last thing I want to do is analyze my food!

I eat pretty much any protein I want, with little to no regard to fat or calories (makes it easy to reach 1200/day). I've posted this other places, but fat is what kills my appetite. As an example, I had bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast yesterday, using some of the bacon grease to cook the eggs in. I looked up at 1:00 and realized I should eat something, even though I was barely hungry. This morning, I overslept so I had a protein shake on the way to work -- 100 calories, 0 carbs, 0 fat. As soon as I post this, I'm going to get my lunch out of the break room!

Sorry -- back to the subject. I don't add gratuitous fat, but I don't make any effort to cut fat out, either. Once I'm in ketosis, I'll have to be a little more diligent about at least tracking calories, since I won't be all that interested in eating. . . but I won't be shooting for any maximum or minimum calories for a day. The only thing I actually count is carbs -- everything else is subject purely to my whims! laugh.gif

I believe Jimmy tracks his ratios, so he should be able to give you some intelligent advice -- but I'm taking this opportunity to enjoy food again!

Absolutely Sara! ENJOY life again and like Valerie said, just watch your carbs. I don't pay attention to fat and protein unless I'm checking them for my own curiosity. Most of the time, I eat about 60-70% fat, 30% protein, and 5% carbs. But you don't have to obsess over counting anything but your carbs. Keep those low and don't worry about fat. FAT IS YOUR FRIEND--say it with me now--FAT IS MY FRIEND. It will help you get HEALTHY and LOSE WEIGHT!!! biggrin.gif You're gonna do awesome, admom, and I can't wait to watch your succeed.
