Hello my dearest friends,
My knee is a mess, I am resting today with ice packs, using a cane and the t.v. See an orthopedic man next week and doing water therapy until then.
The good news is, I lost 2.2lbs over the weekend. I am at a total of 44.5 lbs with this current WOE and 54.5 altogether, true VFZ.
The other good news is, I saw some interesting things on Oprah today. The talk in the past week or so has been about educating ourselves. Oprah's Dr. Oz has a special on DiscoveryHealth tonight, part 1 of 3, I think, 8P.M. EST. I am DVR it so I don't miss anything. It is called The Truth About Food. I picked up a couple of interesting facts, some we know but just a re-emphasis. We ladies need 1200-1500mg of calcium/day along with 600mg of magnesium to prevent constipation and the 2 combined can cause us to lose 6lbs of body fat /year, besides dairy, it is in our leafy green vegetables and of course our supplements. Licopene, best found in tomatoes, it is a wrinkle fighter, adds elasticity to our skin, we all want that. We all know about Omega 3 -fish- eating the fish that is high in Omega 3, the oily fishes, tuna, salmon, sardines, etc., walnuts and flaxseed, it also has a calming effect to our system, reducing our stress levels. How cool is that?! Detox diets, studies show it has no effect on us nor does drinking 'large' amounts of water. 2-3 days of a detox diet is a good jump start to a diet though. Thought you might want to see the special and see what all he has to say is proven about foods. Just an FYI. Also Bob Greene, Oprah's personal trainer and diet guru has a site called www.thebestlife.com and that seal is showing up on foods in our grocery on foods he says is healthy, in moderation, for us. I haven't checked it out as of yet.
I hope this finds all of you well and happy! I'll be fine once I get this knee back in shape. Stinks! I need a few days of slowing down. I am hoping for a big shot of cortizone and continued water therapy. Stay well, Hugs, BrendaJ

BrendaJ - I hope the knee gets better soon. Please take care of yourself.
Thanks for the food info. Very interesting. When people would ask my 103 year old grandmother how she lived to be so old and look so good she would tell them it was the garlic that made her live long and the tomatoes that made her look good. How did she know about the wrinkle thing?

Hi Guys and Welcome! I like Bob Green he's a cutie, but he is decidedly not a low carb guy. Dr. Oz is one of my favorites and very charming. He has a lot of good into to share. It will be interesting. From what I've seen he's not low carb either, but has a lot of interesting factoids about the health of certain foods and the human body. Thanks for sharing!

Hope your knee feels better soon, BrendaJ!
Hey, I DVR'd the show too, but haven't watched much of it yet. I, too, heard Dr. Oz tell those 2 twins about not having to drink so much water and I was amazed. BUT, I have to say that I wonder what his answer would be if he were in Ketosis? I think you have to drink more to flush those acids out of your system. And high protein diets are thought to be hard on the kidneys, so we also need water for that reason.
It all gets so confusing, doesn't it? Especially when people are diabetic and can't have the carbs or when we're on diets like high protein/low carb and feel the need to flush our ketones.
Maybe we should email Dr. Oz and ask him these questions! (or Oprah, so SHE can ask him!)
I love that guy, though. He's so informative!

Hello Brenda,
I too saw the Oprah show, Dr. Oz is indeed a cutie pie & I have his "You on a Diet" Book & Melodie is right~~he's NOT a Low Carb Fan.
Every Dr. has his own Weightloss plan including Dr. Phil~~they work for some as the Atkins, South Beach & Zone~work for some & not others. We have to do what works best for Our Bodies.
The part about not needing the water floored me too, as did that Detox Yucky stuff they did.
For me, Atkins is the way that works in my favor, mostly because I am a Meat lover (beef in particular)~~so I am Happy as a Clam (pardon the pun).
Hope your Knee heals well, just be careful not to overdo and you'll be fine.
Being on a Healthy eating plan will make a difference, as will your Faith.
I have bad feet, the Surgeon even told me it would take a Miracle for me to ever walk again. That was in 2003~~Proves Dr.'s don't have all the answers~~
God Does ~ I feel that as long as you Believe~You will Achieve !!!
