Allow me to introduce myself. I'm the funny fat chick in the back of the photo. I had to cultivate a wicked sense of humor, since my body left me no choice. I seriously believe I am addicted to starchy food. Potato chips and french fries are my #1 triggers. Grandma Utz, you are evil with your lard fried crispy potato-ey path to ruin. Beer is another thing I enjoy, but I can stop after two or maybe three. I can't stop eating chips or fries until I realize the whole bag is gone and then I have to go hide the evidence from my husband. You know what's funny? I really don't care for sugar. I can take it or leave it. I'm the person my friends hate because I can take the recommended 1/4 cup of ice cream, eat it, and be perfectly content. I have a pint of ice cream that's been in my freezer for months.
I did lose close to 60 pounds following the Atkins 02 plan, but slowly I lost ground, listening to all the doubters who whispered that so much fat couldn't be good for me. A lot of those people aren't in my life anymore, and can go suck a porterhouse steak. I've gained 30 back. And now I've decided enough is enough, I'm not buying new pants, I'm staying on induction until the old ones zip again. Which hopefully won't take more than two weeks....
I loaded up my fridge with legal goodies. I have a wholesale grocery in my city, so I bought five pounds of buffalo wings, a case of string cheese, and a drum of mixed nuts. I also grabbed some precooked frozen shrimp and some precooked chicken strips without breading. Now there's no excuse to order a pizza! Speaking of pizza, I can't wait until my 6 boxes of carbquik arrive so I can make a proper pizza again. MMmmmm.

Welcome!! loved your first post. isnt it sad that when we are larger we have to be the ones to make joke about ourselves before anyone else does?

My advice is to continue to look at this as an addiction, a physical response to a diet that the body really doesn't need. Its almost like an allergic reaction.
I think that if we look at the SAD as an addiction, we will be less likely to "long" for those things that do us harm.

Hwy666 I have to agree with you. Even though fatlongenough does not crave sugar per se what she craves is starch which the body sees as sugar. So it's very possibly a sugar craving in disguise.
fatlongenough load up on the healthy stuff and your cravings should fade. Be sure to balance your meals with plenty of fat and adequate protein, and keep a close watch on the carbs because they will make you hungry. Best of luck to you and let me know if I can help in any way.

Umm... where's the vegetables?
And... mixed nuts???
No nuts on Induction.
In case you need the Rules of Induction and the list of foods:

I forgot to mention, I also eat a ton of coleslaw and love sauteed mushrooms. Only now I"m using real butter and mayo again. I hadn't listed absolutely everything I was doing, since I was just typing in a stream-of-consciousness sort of way. My nuts I keep to one ounce a day, just because they help me fight the crunchy salted snack withdrawal.
I'm just trying my best here.

How is eating nuts on Induction (when they're not allowed) and not eating vegetables "doing great"?
Why is it so bad to point someone in the right direction?
It's neither "mean" nor "very harsh".

Is the coleslaw home made or store bought?

fatlongenough...good going.
I do agree with SJM, in that at least the first 2 weeks of any plan you should stick with it as close to 100% as possible....and nuts are not allowed on induction. (If you are eating them, please be sure to measure carefully)
Are mushrooms and coleslaw your only veggies?
Six pounds is an excellent start!!

I grew up in a small town in the midwest where nothing I did or said was ever correct. I left there as soon as I possibly could. It was there I heard gems such as "you're so fat and ugly you'll have to turn lesbian because no man will ever want you" No offense to any lesbians out there....it was just a very hate filled place.
In fact, I went to visit my parents for thanksgiving last year. Airfares were sky -high, and after discussing with my husband that we couldn't really afford $800 for both of us, he agreed that just I could go alone. I went to church with my parents and the first thing anyone said to me with a malicious grin was "Where's your husband?"
I have a point, I promise. I just tend to take the roundabout way to get there. I'm sick of trying to X right just to hear that I did Y wrong. Yeah, so I changed my profile to read "modified" atkins, because I'm changing a few things so I can live with the program for life.
I started my thread here because I'd like to meet people sharing the same issues I have. I'd like to make the journey with some kindred spirits, instead of submitting a menu for scrutiny.

fatlongenough,
Utimately that is what we all do. We "tweak" until we find what works for us. One size never fits everybody and you know your body better than anyone. Follow your plan and if it's not working then "tweak" until it does.

According to the nifty system set up by my inlaws for sharing holidays with five grown children and four spouses, it's my year to travel with my husband to my family for the holidays. I just booked the tickets(yep, in september....I'm picky. I want a nonstop flight and a rental car that won't cause leg cramps, so I gotta get in early.) I love my family, I just wish they didn't live in such a pit. Just last night my mom was telling me how the neighbors across the street stole her garden hose for their meth lab, right before the cops raided them.
so I'd like to really shock them and make some really good progress before my trip. I'm ten pounds heavier than when I saw them last. It would be nice to be under that figure, and it would really kick butt to be close to my goal.

Uh oh.....I just remembered that I have to go to traffic court tomorrow morning, and have nothing appropriate to wear. *sigh* I wasn't feeling quite ready for clothes shopping yet. Dressing room mirrors are evil. Not only do they show every lump and jiggle, they also usually show me that my highlights are way overdue for a touch up. D'oh! I'm having a good sized chicken breast before I go with some cheese so I won't be tempted by the mall food court.

Sep 19 2007, 4:49pm
so traffic court went really well...the judge threw my ticket out! Yay! It was a good day, except the pants I bought were too.......big. Yep, too big. I was feeling lazy and just grabbed my usual size off the rack without bothering to try them on. As a result, I had to hold them up with one hand inside my blazer when I stood before the judge. Must get a belt.

Oooh, that's always good! Throwing the ticket out...I always seem to get stuck paying mine.
fatlongenough
Sep 21 2007, 9:35am
Yeah, I was shocked. It was surprisingly painless. I was even prepared to pay one, but the other I was going to try my best to get out of. But the judge threw both out! Yay! Now I'm back on the road to ten years ticket free! My last ticket that I paid(because I was speeding) was in 1998.

fatlongenough welcome!
i love your into post !
Hey I have to agree with SJ about the nuts, BUT If its something that you can control and won't lead to other cravings and then a cheat, then go for it! Obviously its working for you YAY! Congrats on the 6 lbs!!
I do think the thing with nuts is because it can make you go on a carb binge. It does for me, but thats just me. OH and its because MOST people can't eat just an oz. like me (blushing).
When I did Kimkins I would have a tsp of natural peanut butter to help satisfy a craving and before I knew it I was making a peanut butter sandwich LOL!!
Its what works for YOU. If it works go for it

Hi fatlongenough,
I check back here and often just lurk because I enjoy reading your posts!
I think as long as what you are doing is working for you that is all you need to worry about. Advice is good . . . . . . and even better when it is solicited.
I hope you are having a great, on-plan, weekend!

Hi fatlongenough~
First things first~~can I call you by another name, a shorter name perhaps~~
I'm not a fast typist & most of the times when I finish typing a post and submit it~~there's been 3 done before I got my 1 done.
Anywaaaaaay, here's my 2 cents worth !
If it Ain't Broke Don't Fix it!!
Sure nuts aren't allowed during Induction, but we all have foods that we just can't live without. If eating a handful of nuts prevents you from having an ALL OUT BINGE~~then that's what you've got to do.
As Melodie & Eatheralkim (another long name) says~~we have to find a plan that works FOR us NOT against us. You lost 6 lbs. so you must be doing something right. Just keep in mind that the closer you stay to the Atkins WOE~~the better it'll be for you.
I wish you luck on your Journay to reaching your goal~~I do believe you've made a good start.

I found some Dreamfields pasta on sale this week. I've never tried it before, since I was a little bit skeptical. Is it really that good? Is it really low carb?
I had a little last night with some alfredo sauce. It tasted just like regular pasta, but this morning the scale didn't register a massive water weight jump like it does when I eat anything super carb loaded. Hopefully I won't wake up and this stuff won't be a figment of my imagination.

I've been having a bad time this past week. My depression has returned. I'm considering asking my family doctor for a referral to a psych doctor. I've been depressed off and on for most of my life, but getting help was strongly discouraged in the culture I was raised in. I'm still getting used to the idea that it's okay to ask for help.
In other news, my carbquik arrived today. Maybe going through my old recipe book will help get me back on track.

Hang in there with the depression. My wife takes Paxil for hers and it kicks her down early and often, too.
