This summer my 2 sons 16 and 14 my sister and myself lost over 100 pounds together doing Kimkins. But we didnt need to or have to take it to the extreme, like 500 caleries and such. We had fat and to be honest, had more ground beef then what was said we needed because it was cheaper then chicken.
So we didnt get the side effects some people had.
BTW their Dr. Knew and approved the diet.
It was never my intention to stay on Kimkins past the summer.
Now the boys are in school, and they are low car for b/fast and supper.
At lunch I have little control, and so do they. The choices they have are not great.
most is frozen prepared foods. They tell me that they are making as good of a choice as they can. We will see.
I am trying to teach them what I wish I learned along time ago for them as much as my self.
We are making a change here

Sandi,

Coming from a former fat kid, it's so important to get our kids to learn how to eat right, and I know from conversations we've had before you are doing great not just for yourself but your children too.

Don't we all want to care for those we love the most in the best way possible. I heard something very sad the other day on the radio. They said with all the diebetes in children (something unheard of 10 or 15 years ago) and the cardiovascular problems showing up at a much younger age, we may be the first generation in history to ourlive our children. How tragic!

Keep up the good work, Mom!

Melodie - that is horrible. Don't parents see that? Maybe they don't know any better.... sad.gif

I think some parents just don't know/care about good nutrition, but the majority are trying their best and are being let down by the nutritionally bankrupt guidelines they're given by the "experts."

Plus, I think a lot of people don't realize just how bad fast food really is - if you didn't look it up, would you think that a typical fast food meal would contain more than a day's worth of calories?

Well, you can find the National Education Association's wonderful, web-based nutrition lesson plans here.

(I'm co-principal of our school and think that starting with Jimmy singing "Veggie Tales" and watching Kent A. cook would be a better place to start discussing nutrition with kids!)

OREOS! <grrrr>

In My son's HS
they are not allowed to go out for lunch.
SO they have to eat what is served.
Granted it is a private christian HS
But the lunches are junk
The choices are easy frozen food
Ellios pizza, that meat pies
all carbs
no salads, fresh food and all. Lots of junk food snacks.
SO my sons tries to like just eat the hot dog with out bread,
and scoop the meat out of the pie, things like that.
He doesnt want to take lunch to school as that isnt cool, and I can't blame him. SO I have a nice snack ready for the 2 when they come home.
