Hi..
How do you overcome the fact that our metabolisms do slow down as we age?
Do you find that you can't eat as much (even LC) food as you used to when you were younger???

Carolyn,
Great topic and an important one for everyone, but especially for women over 40. The answer is weight training which helps correct some of the muscle loss that naturally occurs with aging. Strength training improves metabolism as muscle is many times more active than fat at burning energy, and it strengthens bones as well. It's not just about calcium supplementation. Below is a pretty good article regarding strength training and the benefits. Oh and did I mention you'll look better and feel better too?

I find that even after all these years of low carbing I'm still trying to figure that one out. There are days when I feel like I haven't eaten all that much and gain a pound or two and there are days when I feel like I've eaten enough for two people and lose a couple pounds. There seems to be no rhyme or reason sometimes. Trying to narrow it down to a particular food is next to impossible unless it's something obvious like overeating nuts or cheese crisps. I've tried keeping a journal of my daily menus at times and about the only thing that seems to be pretty consistent is that I lose and maintain better when eating more calories and very high fat foods. I also seem to do better when I don't eat low carb breads or desserts but there are exceptions. I tend to lose very well when eating a lot of cheesecake. Go figure! The good news is that I've got the rest of my life to experiment and figure out what is the best way for me to eat.

That is very interesting about calories and fat and it's relationship to losing.
I guess it just goes to show that it we can't depend upon how we "feel" BUT how our jeans feel on us! hahaha
Seriously, Thanks.... something to think about.
