I too eat about 65-70% fat with about 3,000 or so calories a day...and my weight is maintained. Carbs have to be low for this to work, but IT WORKS! biggrin.gif

I'm probably averaging about 1800 calories (I'm short 5'0 and 2 sizes from goal) with lots of things like pork spare ribs, pot roast, bacon, and some baked goods or pancakes made with almond meal and carb quick. Maybe about 30g of carb per day, sometimes 40g. I'm still in ketosis at that level

I'm the only KK survivor that has even come on this thread so far I think because fat is a bad word for KK people! I'm trying to get with the low carb thing. I ate very well yesterday but when I put it in Fitday it scared me--1338 cals., 93 gm. fat, 101 gm. protein, 21 gm. carbs. However, I lost .6 lb. I can't believe it! So I just got my Atkins '72 book today and I'm going to be studying this the rest of this week.

Thanks you guys!

Carol---that is the reason for the post---to get you over the fear of fat---

being in the portion of the forum means you have more to lose than most---the only way is to increase your calories and fat---keeping calories low and fat low and carbs low----makes it harder to lose---your body will fight every single pound

read Dr Atkins book

that is barely enough calories for me according to the BMR scale----mine is 1400---that is the calories just to keep my body working each day---not doing anything

I just plugged in an example in the BMR calculator---

a 5'6" woman who weighs 350 and is 40 yrs old and got this---You have a BMR of 2299.7

You use energy no matter what you're doing, even when sleeping. The BMR Calculator will calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day.

If you've noticed that every year, it becomes harder to eat whatever you want and stay slim, you've also learnt that your BMR decreases as you age. Likewise, depriving yourself of food in hopes of losing weight also decreases your BMR, a foil to your intentions. However, a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise can increase your BMR, improving your health and fitness when your body's ability to burn energy gradually slows down.

Bamgirl, thanks for sharing that information and encouragement. It's hard to get a new mindset after doing Kimkins. And don't forget the Kimkins message that fat is bad and to be feared is something that was echoed by the mainstream for years, so it's like a double whammy.

Here is a link from another low carb expert who makes an excellent case for getting beyond your fear of fat. I hope you will take the time to read it, it will help change your mindset.

You are so right Melodie----after so many years of living high carb low fat because it was what was suppose to be good for my diabetes---when I first started researching the low carb----I kept saying there was no way to lose weight that way---I just couldn't see it---it took me a long time to get my mind wrapped around the whole fat, carb, calorie thing that is my life now

so I know how difficult it is for everyone else----it takes time---I've been doing this 3 1/2 years now---so I had to unlearn 30 years of low fat eating messages----I know the mindset everyone has----been there done that myself

I think it is great everyone is willing to look at all the info available and make there own decision

okay, I read DANDR and a lot of research on the web and some of Jonny Bowden etc... but keep these threads going and adding to them 'cause it's not just the KK thing that has given a lot of us this fear of fat - media-media-media . I can not even tell my parents/siblings what I am about to start doing (until it works) They gave me enough crap about the low carb thing when I was low on fats.
Reading about the science etc helps but there are always the nagging voices etc. ANyway, Love threads like this to reinforce.
Thanks ladies and JImmy

I'm not afraid of fat or calories, just want to get something clear in my brain...

I am 5'7, 307#, age 26-daily activity is light. My BMR calc said my calories should be 2811. Now, I have seen on this forum to reduce that by 500 cals one place and no more than 200 in another..............which is it? Please tell me! I'm having a hard time hitting 2000 either way, let alone somewhere b/t 2300 and 2600. I just can't seem to eat enough. I want to know for sure, for me, so I don't wreck myself getting all flipped out about the "right" number of calories. My goal weight is 175, but I really want to hit 145-155 in the long run if that matters............HELP!!!!! smile.gif

Also, by far, beef appears to be the most bang for my buck as far as calories and meeting protein req's on PP. Is there any correctness AT ALL in the Kimkins mantra NOT to eat it? I was well versed (but not enough to steer clear!!! Grrr!) on Atkins and PP before my little K/K freak out, but this one thing will not leave me alone. I'd eat beef almost every day if I thought I could. I love it, hubby loves it, beef is our meat of choice. Can ya'll help me on this too, pretty please?

Is there any correctness in any of the KK mantra? wink.gif

Seriously, beef is an excellent source of both protein and fats.....two elements that are essential to any healthy diet.

LOL, I know I know!!! wink.gif
