I want to ask, do you people trust doctors anymore? I read more and more that doctors are now basically pill-pushers for the various drug firms. Do you see it that way? And here is something that really pisses me off. At my doctors office in the lobby, they have the TV set to this "CNN health channel, where its a steady stream of SADite propaganda interspersed with ads for various drugs. Its so blatantly manipulative, to me anyway.

Am I alone in this concern?

Just wondering. rolleyes.gif

Welcome to the land of health and nutrition cynicism, HWY 666. It's why I started my blog, podcast show, YouTube videos, and this forum. People need to hear the truth because they're just not getting it anywhere else.

Hell, no, man! I don't even immunize my children. If they get sick, I take them to the Chiropractor so he can reset the body and it can do it's job unhindered. I haven't had them to the doctor in like 2 years. I fight everything they tell me. The only time my children have ever been on antibiotics is when my dd had Scarlet Fever ohmy.gif , and my ds had a severly bad sinus infection at 1.5 years.

I say fight it all you can.

Do you know how funny it is to see that picture and "Hell, no, man!" at the same time? ohmy.gif

I do my research, I read and in the past, DX my self or family only to be found that I was right and the Dr wasn't even close. I have had too many things happen when I let the dr run the show totally lol

Fortunately there are still some excellent docs...but sometimes it's hard finding them!! I have a good doc, as far as a regular doc (PCP), but I'm still hoping for a better one. I do have other docs that are excellent, but i was without a PCP for too long, so this guy will do. I've told him I don't do meds unless there is no choice, don't believe in the cholesterol theory, etc. He's not happy I think, but accepts it.

The biggest thing, and sometimes the hardest, is being open and honest with your doc. My last one made that impossible, so I stopped seeing her....and I've tried several other docs, but things never worked out.

As for chiropractic? If you can find a good one they are the best!! I had one in MA that was excellent....but here in NC I've not had good luck.

spoken like a true nurse---yeah there are some good docs just like there are some good nutritionists and dietitians---few---but they are there

the point is to be proactive in your healthcare---do not blindly take the docs word for it---most of them are so afraid of a lawsuit they follow what is know as "Best Practice"===they do what the majority of other docs would do in a given situation

when I find something on the net related to my personal health--I print it out and take it to the doc with me---they work for us---

my pdoc used to call me non compliant with my care because there were meds and treatments I flat refused to take---we had a very serious confrontation were I explained to him what was what---he has sense come to realize--I know what I'm doing when it comes to my health---will even ask for my input---which unfortunately many docs would not even consider

People keep mentioning chiropracters, but I can't have one of those. I have a pretty severe spinal curvature and a "crack" in the wrong direction could end in my injury or paralysis. They sound great, but I'm not ready to take that risk.

I've seen chiropractors my entire adult life and they are VERY safe. They know what they are doing and wouldn't do anything to harm you. In fact, most I know are pro-low-carb because they deal with many of the same issues that we do from the medical community (we're quacks, don't know what we're talking about, have no proof, yadda yadda yadda!).

Hi Diamondwife,

I just wanted to let you know that even people with severe scoliosis can benefit from chiropractic care. Sometimes chiropractic is actually the only thing that can help someone with complications from scoliosis lead a relative normal, pain free life. I say this because I am a chiropractor. You don't neccesarily need manual adjustments. Those are the types where you here a "crack." There are over 100 different chiropractic techniques out there. I specialize in very high tech instrument adjusting. It is scientific, low force and very comfortable. Traditional chiropractic care is great, but for people who are scared of the twisting, or who have been ill advisedly warned off of the profession, instrument adjusting can be a great way to go.

The potential benefits are huge. Especially because your spine is the master control system of the body. If your nervous system is not functioning properly, then whatever those nerves control aren't working at optimizing your health.

For a lot of people with scoliosis, especially severe, there is stress put on the heart and lungs. While not all people will have curvature correction with chiropractic (some do), their bodies will function better with it.

Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system. They are well educated in neurological, orthopedic and physical exam techniques. Chiropractors can run blood work, have much much more training in nutrition than MD's and in some states are licenced to function as primary care providers. I love MD's. I have three in my family. I do not see eye to eye with a pill for every problem. Not all problems are chemical in nature. We were designed by God to heal. Chiropractic allows your body to heal naturally without drugs and surgery.

If I can help you with any websites where you can find more info. about the background and schooling of this profession, feel free to ask. I wish you the best of health both with your spine and our journey together to low carb for life!

Sorry to jack the thread guys!

Jena,

Got to get the word out! You go. I wish more people knew how good it is for them. My poor chiropractor...I go in and say things like, "My ear is filling up, I think my jaw is out." or "My arm hurts..fix it." He always does. And when I was pregnant..I was in there all the time for my joints and esp. my wrists. I can't say enough good things.

My kids have been going since they were six weeks old and they both had the same subluxation in the same spot and he told me that is common because they came out of the same pelvis..wow! So, some things that we put off to heredity are actually not.

Worth a look IMHO.

Hillary,

You are awesome! I wish more people understood their bodies like you do. Isn't it amazing the health problems that can be avoided by keeping our nervous system healthy? Spread the word sister, your chiro is a lucky guy!
