My absolute favorite lunch is a burger on lettuce. My family and I actually go to the store, buy "butter lettuce" and then we descend on Burger King and order big ol' Whoppers sans ketchup. We remove the buns and low carbify them! What bliss!!

I've been doing a lot of stuffed burgers lately. Mix up hamburger or ground sirloin with Worcestershire sauce, fill them with cheddar cheese and chopped hatch green chilis.....

Also what's good.....no.....great, is to put some crumpled blue cheese in your ground beef. It makes burgers super juicy.

I am so thankful for hamburger patties... As a college student, I have a VERY tight budget, and last week, I was feeling low on energy, and through some quick calculations, I discovered that I wasn't eating nearly as much fat or as many calories as I should be. However, that's changing from now on, because I discovered that I can cook hamburgers in the microwave! Just put a tiny bit of avocado oil on it (I'm glad that it only takes a little bit, because it's soooo expensive...even if I did get it on sale), and cook for three minutes per patty (I cook them one at a time, two minutes on one side and one on the other. I also put the first patty back in the microwave when there's thirty seconds left for the second one, so that it stays nice and warm.). After they come out, I season them with a little of McCormick's Salt Free All-Purpose seasoning and put a bit of mustard on them. I'm glad I cook the patties in a bowl, too, because it saves all the delicious fat juices from spilling around in the microwave! As for the tight budget, I'm able to buy 32 1/4 pound all-beef hamburgers at the store for around $10! What a steal! I have to limit myself to four of them a day (only because of financial reasons, because I honestly think I could eat more), but with the eggs, almonds, avocados, and other awesome foods I bought, it shouldn't be an issue at all! Problem solved! =D

TigerEyes:
I'm right with you there. All the fattier cuts of meat that I have described in my various posts are generally much cheaper than their lean counterparts. I go to Super Wal-Mart and I look for the fattiest cuts of everything. They put these yellow stickers on the pack -- like $3 for all these steaks. They will mark them down because people don't want the fat. I say, your loss, my gain.
When you get those burgers, look for the ground chuck with the highest fat content. They are usually the cheapest but they are the most flavorful and simply the best.
You can also check with the people in the meat department and ask which days they mark down the meat. It's usually the day before the meat truck comes and you can get some really good deals.
I have a soft spot for students. When I was in college, I was so poor.... Hang in there, it's worth it. And if you can come through it with your health and nutrition, you're batting a thousand.
All the best,
Charles

Thanks for are the great advice! I'd love to pay only $3 for a lot of steaks! Too bad I don't have a stove... These hamburgers are so delicious, though. I was really scared, because I found out that they have 1.5 grams of Trans fat in them (although I've since been told that natural Trans fats aren't bad), and coupled with an allergic reaction I had, I was worried that I would have to stop eating them, and they would go to waste. Now, I'm really hoping it's the tea I'm allergic to, especially since I just cooked myself up two more delicious patties. I've gotta have my meat! =P
I'm super pissed off at my college, though. I found a job that requires a 1 hour and 45 minute bus ride (I need to take two buses to get there, actually) so that I could get rid of my meal plan, pay for my own food, and save my mom a lot of money. Now I find out that I HAVE to have a meal plan as long as I'm living in the dorms! ARGH!
