I read that article just a few weeks ago myself. It's fascinating. There is a really interesting interview conducted I think by another journalist who interviewed Taubes. That was great as well because he talked a lot about the politics of writing and publishing that article. Interesting stuff. As I remember he was surprised they would even print it, if you can believe that.

You're gonna LOVE LOVE LOVE his book, too! Good Calories, Bad Calories will blow your mind when it comes out September 28th!

Howdy Everyone,

This article is proof enough that the science of diet and its effect on the body's response to insulin, and subsequent weight gain or weight loss is still in it's infancy.

Plus the political implications of a high protein/low carb diet is far reaching.

I can't wait for this book!!

Hi Kristin, welcome!

I can't wait for his book either. Just the article was a real kicker, so the book is probably going to be amazing. If I don't go ahead and reserve on Amazon soon I might have to wait for a copy.
Jimmy Moore
He told me in my interview with him last month that a lot of what he thought was true in that article in NY Times has changed. That was surprising to hear...but he lays the groundwork well in the book. I've had a pre-pub copy and am DYING to talk about it. Can't do it until September 28th! sad.gif

Hey Jimmy,

I am LOOKING FORWARD to your discussion of the book, coming VERY SOON!

I pre-ordered it on Amazon last week! I am so glad it's finally getting published and can't wait to read it.

PBS has an interview with Taubes from 2004 where he talks about the push towards low fat diets being a result of political and social ideology that came out of the Bay Area:

Very interesting....I never thought about it in that way but it makes a certain amount of sense.

Yes the article is an oldie but a goodie.

If I remember right, it was the catalyst for the 'low carb craze'.

I remember my early low carb interest days. Pity I couldn't put them into practice back then!

I can't wait for this book! Maybe this will make a lot of folks in the medical/ pharma/ diabetes community take notice. I pre-ordered it, will they ship immediately on or about 9/28?
Jimmy Moore
Welcome Tymom! I know that's what Gary hopes will happen and he said as much in my interview with him recently.
Jimmy Moore
The book won't ship until the release date.

I like the idea of ordering extra copies for your doctors.

Luckily, my Doctors were all very open minded about it. If I ever encounter a Doctor who is adamantly opposed, I won't be his patient. If they can't be bothered to listen and do a little basic research, I wouldn't feel comfortable putting my health in their hands.
Jimmy Moore
Too bad more patients won't take that same stand Tao!
