EtheralKim

Well here I am a 2nd go at Atkins. I am Kim, and I am 28. I have approx 45 lbs to lose to get to goal. I am not setting a time limit like I usually do I will lose at my own pace and take it in 10 lb increments.

Simply put, it worked before and it will work again if I keep my head in the game and approach it the way it should be approached. As a new way of life. A low carb, healthy, THIN life, not a quick fix weight loss solution.

I am tired of fighting with my fat, I am ready to finish it off once and for all and am so happy to be hear with you all and Jimmy!

Hi Kim,

I'm starting my 2nd time too. I went out and bought the book again (I lost my old one), and I also went ahead and picked up "Atkins Essentials". Haven't read that one before and am hoping maybe to get some new info from that.

Anyway, I'm fired up too! biggrin.gif

Hey Kim, you got it off once, you'll do it again, and we'll all go happily off to maintenance land. That's a process but we can learn to do it together. Best to you!

Hi Charles! Sorry this is so late! I am am all over the place and did not get notification of the new post here ohmy.gif I am so sorry I was not ignoring you!

I love that your checking in on me!

Ok here's the deal. I am officially starting Induction today. I went gorcery shopping yesterday and stocked the house with atkins friendly foods, and packed up a whole days worth and brought it to work.

Exercise - I WAS a beginner runner for a bout a month and LOVED it. Now I have had so much going on at home that my time has been stripped so I have to get back into it. I am going to try to go when I get home tonight. Its only 30 minutes, for now, so I know I can manage that.
I love strenth training. My favorites are wall squats with the stability ball and dumbells. they really work! because I am crunched for time I thin compound moves like squats and pushups will be my staple. That way I am working as many muscles as possible in short time. I read this in Oxygen Magazine LOL wink.gif
I want to continue running so I am going to try and focus on my lower body a little more than upper.

Hows that sound for a plan??
Oh And I joined the 20 lbs by Halloween challenge too!

Kim:

Just tremendous, absolutely! I am very impressed. You only have 20 pounds to go, so you are certainly doing the right things to get there.

Since you're beginning induction, I just want to re-stress what I have many times, and that is to make sure you are eating enough. The pushups and exercises like it work multiple muscle groups just like you said, and those muscles will require protein. Therefore, as you begin Induction, make a fattier piece of meat the foundation of each meal. I would even say, eat the meat first (until you're about 75% full), your controlled vegetable portion second and then if you're still hungry, eat some more meat until you are full. This should keep you going for 5 to 6 hours without having to resort to snacking. If you eat this way, you will have the greatest success on Atkins Induction.

Also, keep your menus sort of short. Variety can make it hard to tell what's working and what's not. Fattier cuts of meat and vegetables. Go with chicken thighs over chicken breasts. Eat the skin too, very flavorful. Then, after a week, let's see how much you lost. Vary the meat the next week, and if you're still losing at the same rate, we'll know how to begin the second phase of Atkins. Doing it this way will help you establish control over your weight loss. It will also help you establish your safe zone so if you stall or you get off track, you can retreat to these safe foods and you can resume weight loss.

As Rule 1 clearly states, you can eat liberally of fat and protein but you have to control those vegetables. When I say "fat", I'm more talking about fattier cuts of meat. Obviously there is fat in salad dressings and creams and oils, but those may contain carbs so you have to watch it with them, despite the good fat they contain.

I would venture to say that if you do Induction in the manner I'm describing, your 20 pounds may not take too long to reach.

Good luck and keep me posted.

All the best,

Charles

Thanks Charles! That helps alot! I have always struggled with keeping things in perspective when losing and focused on how much I can lose in the shortest amount of time, when I KNOW i need to be paying attention to my body and how it reacts to what I put in it, in order to make this WOE work for me for the long haul.

I do BTW have more than 20 lbs to lose *wink*. Thats just my first goal. I want to lose 40 total. I figure I will start with 20, which is for the Halloween 20 lbs Challenge, and go from there.

Today is my first day back out running, I can't wait. I never felt better than when I went for a run. (well, a run/walk, i am still a beginner) smile.gif

Morning Kim!

You are a loser miss 1.5 lbs!!!! smile.gif

Great job with the running. You'll be there before you know it. Just keep eating and you'll have plenty of energy. When I ran on Induction, I might have felt a little tired when I started, but then I discovered I had this sustained energy so I could go a bit faster and farther than I thought I could at that moment. My son called me, "protein powered" after I left him in the dust! wink.gif
EtheralKim
HA Charles!
Thanks!

When I started, I could only run for like 30 seconds then had to walk for 2-5 min! It was pathetic ! After a couple weeks I was able to run most of the way and only take 3 or so short 1-2 min walk breaks. I haven't ran in like 3 weeks though so I may have a hard time again, but I will work my way up!
Minimimi
Running is one of my biggest exersise goals. (that and the damn eliptical machine!) I loved to run as a kid, I used to watch Private Benjamin the T.V. show and there was one where Pt. Benjamin had to run a mile or get kick out of the Army. I figured out how may trips it took around our driveway and used to run, run, run! (Ahhh, the memories...) Of course that was at LEAST 20 years ago!

Deni's journal talks about a program called "Couch to 5K" It looks very interesting. I am going to try it after I lose more weight. I would love to run a 5K with my brother and his family.

Keep up the great work,
Amy

Hey Kim,
Just checking in to see how you are. But, I just remembered, if I remember correctly, that you are helping out friends on the weekend with their house. Hope everything is going well.
