Hi Everyone,
Well I was banned

today from Kimkins and I'm feeling a bit lost at the moment. I was wondering if it was safe to still do K/E? Today I have had 78.8gms of protein,
62.5gms of Fat, 9.2gms of carbs, Sugar 5gms and sodium 3076mg (had a bit of rindless bacon). This gives a total of 970cals for the day.
So I guess I'm just wondering if that is okay or whether I need to tweak a few things? I'm not really a vege or fruit eater, so suggestions on other things to eat would be greatly appreciated

I am also trying to get back into Ketosis as well.
I am 5 feet tall also if that helps any
Thanks, Kristy

I think it is ok, but be smart about it, up the caleries and fat a bit.
Try not to go below 1000 at least. I think I will be doing that now. I have lost 35 pounds and I never felt better, but I will up the cal. and fat a bit.

I agree with Sandi.....keep your calories up, but I'd say over 1200.
Also, if you are only taking in 9.2 grams of carb you ARE in ketosis!! (Ignore the sugar grams, all carbs that aren't fiber turn to "sugar" or glucose).
9.2 grams is very low carb, even if you've already subtracted the fiber. If you are taking in that low an amount you are in ketosis, regardless of whether the strips show it or not.
And welcome Kristy!! Sorry you got banned, but glad you found us!!

Thanks for the info everyone,
I think I am starting to understand a little better now

However I still have a few questions such as how much fat exactly, should I be having?? I thought 62.5gms was quite high actually but then again I AM an ex-KK and it was always stated to keep fat around 20-40gms

so I'm not too sure what the amount should be exactly to keep it healthy
Also I will try an up the cals a bit and keep it at about 1100-1200. I am just basically having M/E and eating when hungry but I don't subtract any carbs as I'm not sure how to do it. I plan on going to the library first thing tomorrow and hiring an Atkins book (I have hired the Atkins for life book out but found it confusing, for a newbie) What would be a good one to start with? From what I could gather, I think I'm doing more the '72 version of Atkins at the moment

Anyway will have a look tomorrow and Hopefully be less annoying
I really appreciate the time taken to answer all of my annoying questions
You want to start with the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, in my opinion.
While 1972 Atkins is a good read, you won't be getting the benefit of 30 years of nutritional research that's in the 2002 book.
Until you have a book,

Hey Christy, WELCOME! I'm happy to see you here.
Definitely increase your fat intake which will get your calories up to a much healthier 1200 calories a day minimum. And as sjm so wonderfully provided, LEARN ALL YOU CAN about what this way of eating is about.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!

62 grams of fat is not a lot!!
My personal favorite book for a quick explanation is The 30 Day Low Carb Solution by the Eades. It doesn't go too deep into anything, but explains it fully at the same time.

Thanks everyone,
I am trying to up the cals and I am currently bidding on an Atkins pack on Ebay as it wasn't at the library today and I figured it would be easier to just buy the books anyway.
Thanks Sjm for the links I am going to check them out now, from what I saw quickly it looked very straight forward and will help immensely.
Jimmy thanks for the encouragement, I really like it here and it is starting to feel like home already

Kristy, the 1972 version of Atkins isn't like KK, or at least what I've read about KK. Dr. Atkins starts you out at essentially 0 carbs, getting carbs only from salad, but each week you add 5 carbs to your daily menu, until you are still losing but eating a nice variety of foods. And you don't have to limit fat. There isn't any reason to limit fat. It does not affect your blood sugar or insulin levels, so it cannot cause you to gain weight.
The science behind low carb is that you limit carbs so you don't release large amounts of insulin that causes you to store fat. And keeping your carbs extremely low won't make you lose faster or better. It's better to eat in a way that you can sustain for the long term, that is satisfying, that you won't be tempted to cheat "just this once". And you can be satisfied if you get enough fat in your diet.
And don't reject the veggies! It doesn't take a lot to get your 5 servings in. Experiment with different things, try new foods you might not have tried before. Veggies are packed full of nutrients that will improve and maintain your health. And don't overcook them! Eat them raw when you can.
It's really hard to find the right "formula" that will help you lose and also protect your health, but with all the advice around here, you're sure to find the right balance.
I wish you much success in your low carb journey.
