Hey admom! Certainly K/E will get you going on Atkins, but why not just start on Atkins by the book. Have you read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution yet? smile.gif

I'm happy to see you are ready to move forward with your weight and health management. There are MANY of us here who have been quite successful on the Atkins diet, so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!
melodiegale
I agree with Jimmy. Time to start looking for a new "lifestyle" which is what Atkins can be for you. Besides the fat may actually get you jumpstarted even better. You've been doing KK so time to fool the body with something new. Good Luck!
admom7
Actually...I am a bit slack of late. Thankfully the scale has been merciful.
I will have been reading and will give it a real College try biggrin.gif

Doing it by the book will help you be more successful. We're here for you. smile.gif

Good luck!!! I am on atkins as well, and just to echo Jimmy "By the book" is the way to go.

Welcome. Fear of changing things can really overpower you. I was super scared to up my carbs according to the book, but as soon as I did I started actually losing a little more. Glad you are here.

admom7:

Just to echo everyone else. Go with the book, and also take a look (if you're a reader) at Atkins for Life which will give you a roadmap of where this new way of eating is heading. It's a great deal more than just weight loss. Plus it will provide some perspective on the New Diet Revolution.

I know it's been said, but we're all here for you!

All the best,

Charles

This is a great place to be!

Admom - I recognize your username from "over there." Welcome here! I just made the jump last week, and dove right in to Atkins. I had been stalled for a month on Kimkins, and it was driving me CRAZY. I didn't even do induction until the 5th day, I ate lots of fat that I had been denying myself on KK and I had cheese and butter and cream and steak, and just had a good ole' time, and you know what, I lost 3 lbs! So, why punish yourself with more K/E - take advantage of the lipolysis and ketosis that Dr. Atkins talks about. Put down that horrible skinless, flavorless dry chicken breast and eat something GOOD!

In all seriousness, ditto on what everyone is saying about getting the book and following the plan. DANDR is a great place to start. Best wishes!

Admom - I am also from "over there" ahem smile.gif

Admom7 - go check out the Atkins forum. There are so many knowledgable people there. I know a few of us from kk have made the move to atkins. Start reading some of the threads. Between the threads and the book, you will do fine! smile.gif

Hi all still wondering how to transition, Question though as I have been reading through these forums. I do plan on looking at different low carb sites and books etc, but I keep noticing Atkins and Atkins72.
what is the difference and are there different books etc for each?
Thanks,
Tria

it is so great to see names/faces That I actually recognize - looking forward to a new start to the same problem - with a very positive attitude.

Welcome to my forum Tria! Atkins 72 and DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) are not that much different. Most people are doing DANDR, but a few like the original plan as prescribed by Dr. Atkins when he first introduced his low-carb diet to the world 35 years ago. The main difference--carbs are a bit HIGHER with DANDR, including the promotion of fruits and veggies and higher carb counts in maintenance. That may work for some, but not all of us. The key is to get on A PLAN and then work on maintenance later. Let us know how we can help you in this newfound journey to becoming healthy! biggrin.gif

Jimmy your picture is worth a 1000 words - you look awesome - Thanks for creating this place for us to come. It is very much appreciated.

Hi lcmama and welcome! While you are deciding on the right plan for you there are a couple of things you can do to get yourself going in the right direction. I don't know what level of Kimkins you were doing calorie and carb wise, but you need to shoot for 1200 calories minimum. Add some more green veggies, but slowly and keep in mind the 20g of carb limit. The most important thing is to add fat to what you are currently eating. Butter on veggies, cream in the coffee, add bacon or cheese or both to chicken breasts, and enjoy some really good full fat salad dressings. These are simple changes you can make that will get you going on the right track regardless of what plan you choose. Best of luck to you!

Brenda B,

WOO HOO! You found us! biggrin.gif This is a great place and does not have all of the controversy that other forums do. Wiyaga is here, too, and I am hoping some of the others come over as well.

I miss the GlitterGirl group challenge we had going. If you haven't found it already there is a Lose 20 lbs by November 1st challenge here. It officially started last Monday but you can join at anytime.

I am trying to locate a 72 Atkins book as I think I may prefer that over DANDR . . . just from what I have read. I am going to go look at several used book stores today to see if I can locate one.

For all the new members here who came over in the last 3 weeks or less, if you have switched to a new plan and if you are doing it by the book, can you tell me which one and what type of weight loss, weight gain or stall you are experiencing? This will help me know what to expect. I know we are all different and will experience different cycles but this is just a ruler I can kind of gage things by.

Thank you so much!
Lisa

Hey Lisa,

Don't be skuuured cool.gif !!

I lost 50lbs on KK but it was by the skin of my teeth and I was constantly in a stall sometimes I knew why but towards the end of my 50lb loss it was very hard I was totally on plan but stalled out for 2 weeks at a time. I was soooo afraid to transition on to anything else but I went on vacation and you know what happened so I took that opportunity to change over to Atkins induction and it has been great.

I've been enjoying my self dropping it (lbs) like it's hot and eating 1 minute muffins and bacon and eggs and cheese every morning. I've talked about it so much on other forums here so I don't want to go into it again here. If you need more encouragement PM me at anytime.

Dee

Thanks for sharing Dee. The new arrivals from KK need to hear stories like yours to know that there is hope after Kimkins.
sftruth
There sure is hope...if I can transition over at my age and history with "that other plan" anybody can .

I'm so happy , I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm free!!!

I doing the Atkins right now but I'm also reading The Paleo Diet right now and leaning a little toward that but I do not know yet. I have always lean towards a natural state life-style but have always found it very hard to commit to in a Western Culture. So, I will read it and see what happens will probably find myself somewhere in the middle if that works.

I will need to ask Jimmy or Melodie what they think about that. I guess I will ask now cause I know you guys keep up with all the forums. I do not know how you do it, but you do it and do it very well I may add, my hat off to all of the Moderators and support posters who keep us connected. Please let me know your thoughts on this Jimmy/Melodie?

I've had no problem at all incorporating the Atkins diet into my American lifestyle. Sure, it can be challenging with everyone shoving carbs in front of you at social gatherings and at restaurants. But ANYTHING can be made low-carb if you just watch out for yourself. Find what works for you Lisa and then DO IT...for the rest of your life! biggrin.gif
PrettyPetite
Hi Jimmy,

I'm not worried about fitting Atkins in I think that one is easy I'm worried if I try to incorp. so of the Paleo Diet in, it is pretty restrictive and not sure how that will work in our culture? I guess I will have to see and if not can always come back to Atkins by the book.
sftruth
Hey Lisa, I don't know anything about the Paleo thing so I can't really say anything about that but do you have a health problem or something that you want to control with it?

Please don't take that as a dig or anything I'm just really wondering.
After being on that other thing and feeling so restricted I am weary of getting my body used to something like that again unless I would need it for health reasons. Oh, I went back to read your post and you said you wanted to do something more natural.... like raw foods?

With Atkins you can live a normal life socialize and really no one has to know you're on it if don't choose to share, unless you meet someone doing the same thing. My DH and I went to a dance and the woman that sat next to me had a plate full of cheese and meat so I asked her are you on Atkins and she smiled and said yes!!

I think I missed the point . I wish you continued success, Dee

Thanx Jimmy for the flying eagle that's just how I feel. huh.gif
PrettyPetite
Hi Dee,

No I do not have any health problems (only the crap that sent me to the Dr. on KK) other than that I have a good bill of health. I guess I'm trying to find something close to eating the way God designed us to eat without living on all the other fake stuff that got us all over weight and with health concerns. Paleo is a low carb lifestyle also (it's not raw he just suggest that you eat as much raw fruit and veggies as you can). The part I think I will have a very hard time with is no sugar substitute, no dairy I'm OK with that except for the cheese I love cooking with cheese and no salt (I know this is good to do without in any diet) but it is hard to adjust to at first. So these are the things that I'm not sure of but it still should fit in to eating out just as Atkins and KK did. I'm just really concerned if I start adding fruit back will I start gaining, I finally start the weight loss again and do not want to halt that process but I guess I will not know unless I try it. I will keep you posted on how it is going and if after two weeks if I do not lose watch out Atkins full force her I come! Well, actually I'm doing Atkins right now I just still get the "Yikes" from all the fat especially saturated fat. I love the good fats learned about them years ago even when I did all raw (which I did not lose any weight on).

Well as Jimmy said I just need to pick on and stick to it. Dee, keep up the good work and I will see you on the other side of the scale.
JAYBEE
i think that is the biggest problem us transitioners have-picking a plan- so we put it off, and eat some carbs and think about what plan we want to go on, and gain some weight, and wonder about kk, and realize we need to have a healthy plan, but can't decide which one, so we put it off...etc

why not just commit to a plan, any plan, pick one, and see how it goes-it will give a sense of purpose, and hopefully accomplishment, and hopefully you wont end up where i did, with 20lbs back on before i made a decision...(i guess another side effect of kk is to be indecisive and not able to trust)

c'mon lets just do it--pick one---its not like we cant change it if its not working---just dont carb yourself up like i did!

i chose atkins, one hour at a time
day 1 completed, day2 down 2.5 lbs- i am on my way!

love to all
sftruth
Ok, Lisa I understand and I wish you well on your plan. As far as the no sweetener can you use Stevia? that's supposed to be a natural sweetener. I'm with you on the dairy too, I'm lactose intolerant so I was not into dairy that much but being on Atkins I do enjoy my grilled cheese sandwiches made with my 1 min. muffin. You'll find your way and I'll be looking to see your success.

Jaybee...I feel you on that saying , when I was struggling on WW a long time ago and trying to decide to do one thing or another someone else said you can't see any results cause you jump from one thing to the next so just pick a plan and stick to it to see results. After my disappointment with the other thing I'm so glad I knew to go right back to Atkins and it has been a blessing for me.

Just a thought that I've had this morning that I have to vent . This is probably the wrong place to say it and I hope my post is not deleted but I feel a little sad this morning because as of yet I have not been banished from the other place so I still go in to check on a challenge that I was interested in and I was hurt to read a person I care about and others saying how we should look past the person and just stick to the plan and concentrate on that because the plan works and their getting their moneys worth and then the last thing I read was that we are running away and giving up .

I totally disagree about both those statements. I left the site because when I feel something is wrong, I cannot support one part of a lie and disregard the other part that offends "me" and my personal feelings. I have never and I will never get into a public bashing of anyone . I too feel like with that plan I got my 40.00 worth. I lost 50 lbs and I regained control of my appetite. I still say the plan taught me more control and discipline than I've had in years and I'm grateful for that. At first I too felt like "well, I'm losing weight so who cares?" but then I started to feel like I don't want to be a part of this so I left . I didn't post a long sermon or try to get anyone to join me (no dig at anyone that may have)

Also I did not give up, I decided that I was on that plan experiencing hunger or endless cravings . I did go off sometimes but for the most part I stuck to plan how else would I have lost 50lbs? but I was stuck in 1 stall after the next while going to bed hungry. I was afraid for the future because at my age I can't lose just to re-gain all this weight. I also have a busy social life I needed to find a plan I could really live with . I could say so much more but I don't have the time and we don't have the bandwidth. I just wanted to vent and hope that we all give people the right to do what their conscience dictates them to do without imputing bad motives to them or assume they're giving up. I have done well on Atkins and haven't missed a beat. I know without a doubt if I had gone back to my other plan I would be stuck in a stall today, right now and I would be losing hope.

With my transition I have hope that I will really get to goal and I'll be able to live with my chosen plan.

Ok, could someone hold the soapbox as I climb down huh.gif

Dee
JAYBEE
yes i can hold it for you Dee-just let me move mine out of the way first

We are all gonna be alright- i can feel it xoxoxo
