I'm sure most of the ladies in here had "big hair" at one point or another. I was a wild child, so I had the works. I'll have to dig up some photos to share so you can all get a good laugh.

Guys.. feel free to share any mullets you may have had.

Me too, I don't have any of "those" pictures in my computer so I'd have to scan them in. Hey, did you ever have "mall bangs"?

OMG! I had them all! I even had the one where it was shorter on one side and then went around and got longer on the other, Mall Bangs (I could go pretty high), the shaved in the back and permed on top...I was quite the hair guru. I will see what I can dig up, but have tried to throw them out as much as possible.

We used have a teacher that would measure our hair! LOL He'd write on the board who had the highest hair for each day.

I know that I'm too old to be in here but I can't help but wonder what Mall Bangs are, LOL. I did a Google search and got this picture:

Is this what you're talking about?

In ever heard of them, I thought it was like the way my mother used to cute my bangs, starting at one point, and getting shorter as it crosses my forhead, boy did I look sorry lol
Why are they called Mall bangs

One of the Google hits that I got referred to them as "Mall Rat Bangs". I have no idea where the name came from though.

Does a COW LICK count as "big hair?"

Speaking of "big hair," check this out:

Jimmy - that last pic is mulletsville big time!
Honestly, I never did know why they called it mall hair. Maybe cause we were always at the mall? lol As for the rat part.. it could be because we sometimes had to rat our hair to get it up there like that. Your guess is as good as mine.

im new here but thought i would add my two cents.. i had hair down past my waist in the back and Huge bangs in the front! i had part of them curled under and the top part flipped back and high up. with lots of aqua net sprayed for good measure! what is so funny(not funny then) is that when i would walk down the hall in high school the kids would all use their hands like scissors and make snip snip sounds. as if the back length of my hair was the true problem! goes to show ya how "normal" those bangs were!! i remember going to the mall with my pals and being so worried that she had the window down and that my hair was gonna fall!! i would be prayin that i had put enough spray on it!! lol!!

I think the mall bangs name did come from the fact that we's do our hair like that then walk up and down the mall. My friends and I were the true mall rats of course. Walkin', smokin' and hopin' we didn't set our hair on fire.
Now, about aqua net, my sister used mine along with a lighter to make a blow torch and burn off the face of my favorite Kirk Cameron poster.

whoa lisa!! hee hee! i guess we all used aqua net! do they even still make it anymore!? i used to spray my bangs so stiff that if i walked into the wind, the whole pile of bangs would completely lift off of my forehead!! lol!! i remember thinking how strange it felt to feel air on my forehead at all! ha ha! as a joke to make my cousins laugh i used to brush my bangs completely flat and clip them to the side with a barrett. we laughed ourselves onto the floor. now it would seem more normal to see hair with a pretty clip then sprayed a mile high. as for a ciggerette.. i was always too scared...now if they were edible then i would have had a dozen a day! lol!.....

We alternated between aqua net and Rave 4 (the strongest hold). Yes, they still make aqua net. I no longer use it.

I did the smokin' thing too. But not in public. My mom worked for the police department and all the cops knew me. I'd have been busted in a heartbeat! I still use Aqua Net!!!
Here's my big hair pic:

Thanks.

I can say now that I don't miss those days. I don't use a curling iron or hair dryer on my hair at all now! Takes less time to get ready when going somewhere! LOL!

not to mention you couldn't breathe by the time you walked out of the bathroom due to all the hairspray fumes..

I'll have to dig up a photo, but it will not be very big. I am inept at using a curling iron and could never, ever, get my hair big enough! Ha! Funny to say that now...
The worse thing ever was when I got a perm. Remember when spiral perms were all the rage? Well, I had very thick, wavy hair and ended up looking, literally, like a long haired poodle. It didn't look better for weeks. I was scarred for life. Hee!

LOL I had one of those poodle do's too.
