I thought it would be interesting to see what other LC folks are reading or have read. Kind of a Low-Carb reading list.
My Current LC Library:
Dr Atkins' New Diet Revolution -- my first LC book in 2003. Read and reread it and it still remains a great resource for me.
Dr Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution -- I was encouraged to buy this book after reading DANDR, and Dr Atkins does a fantastic job of explaining vitamins and minerals in a way even I could comprehend it, and it is one of the few references geared toward LC.
Protein Power by Drs. Eades -- my 2nd LC book, and I found it equally enlightening as DANDR. Still an excellent LC reference.
Protein Power: The Life Plan by Drs. Eades -- just bought this book in July and love it, love it, love it. I love the Eades writing style and I love the vast amount of health info and 'why we're doing it' info. I am currently following PP:TLP and it is working well. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting in depth LC info.
Living the Low Carb Life by Jonny Bowden -- one of my favorite LC books. Easy to read and chock full of valuable LC info and advice from one of the leading health authorities. One valuable section of this book includes an overview of the most popular LC plans.
150 Healthiest Foods in the World by Jonny Bowden -- a masterpiece in several ways. A beautiful book to look at and read, but it is loaded with nutrition information you can use everyday. His writing style is easy to read, yet very informative.
Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain -- I enjoyed reading this book, but have some reservations about it. First of all, it is too strict of a plan for me in that it eliminates dairy and grains altogether. However, some report great success with this plan. It's just not for me. And a real no-no, Cordain recommends cooking with flax oil. This goes against all established knowledge about flax. This book does do a fairly good job of giving the history of food, diet and nutrition of our Paleo ancestors.
The Secret to Low Carb Success by Laura Richard -- a good book with lots of good tips on low carbing.
The Schwarzbein Principle by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein -- Schwarzbein is at the top of my list for ease of explaining hormone balance and operation, insulin resistance and healing one's metabolism. I love reading this book and gleaning its straightforward health advice. I highly recommend this book even if you don't follow her plan.
The New Sugar Busters -- I read this book in 2003, and was my first enlightenment to the evils of sugar. It is an informative read, but I feel it doesn't go far enough in the elimination of sugar from our diet.
Sugar Shock by Connie Bennett -- I consider this book to the "The Definitive Reference of Choice for The Real Truth About the Evils of Sugar". This resource turned on some real nutrition lights for me and has helped me tremendously. This is a must read for every LC devotee.
How I Gave Up My Low Fat Diet and Lost 30 Pounds by Dana Carpender -- read this book in 2004. An encouraging and informative read by one of LC's most outstanding advocates.
500 Low Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender -- A great LC cookbook with lots of easy recipes with common, easy to find ingredients.
Extreme Lo-Carb Cuisine by Sharron Long -- some good ideas, but many ingredients are hard to find, therefore many recipes are not that useful.
I'll be rereading some of these, studying and researching. I want to fortify my LC mindset and indeed learn the 'how & why' in order to make this a real Life Plan.
What are you reading?

Ron---I'm a reading fanatic and these are all in my library. One book you need to add when it finally comes out is---
The Brain Trust Program by Larry McCleary
Dr Eades recommended it. It goes into how a ketogenic diet affects the brain. Amazon even has a book deal combining preorder of this book and Gary Taubes new book---both due out in Sept.
As someone who has a great interest in the functions of the brain and diseases of the brain, I look forward to reading this book.
Jimmy has already done posts about the research done concerning Parkinsons and Alzheimers but from my own research---it affects so many more brain functions. Like epilepsy and bipolar disorder.
anyway---that's just a heads up---here are a few more worth checking into---
A Life Unburdened: Getting Over Weight and Getting On With My Life by Richard Morris
Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats By Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD
Dying to Look Good: The Disturbing Truth About What's Really in Your Cosmetics, Toiletries, and Personal Care Products. . . and What You Can Do About It. by Christine Hoza Farlow, DC
The Diet Cure By Julia Ross, MA

I was actually privileged enough to write a little blurb for the back of the book on Dr. McCleary's book about the relationship of low-carb diets to brain function. This WILL be an excellent addition to the library of anyone who wants to improve their mind through dietary changes. THANKS for sharing about it here, BamGal!

I also just pre-ordered Gary Taubes' new book and bought Staying Power : Maintaining Your Low-Carb Weight Loss for Good by the Drs Eades.
I'd agree with lots of the above, and add Life Without Bread by Wolfgang Lutz and Christian Allen. It has lots of explanation of the effects of carbs on your body - hormones, digestion etc, and details of the effects on patients that Lutz treated over many years (including graphs showing how long it typically took various changes to occur).

My heros are Dr. Atkins, The Eades, and Dana Carpender.

Another book on my list is THE OMNIVORE'S DILEMMA by Micheal Pollan.
Not low carb, but man did I learn a lot about the modern food chain from this.
I would recommend it to anyone.

George Stella's Livin Low Carb and Low carb recipes for healthy living...
My b/f got me to order these cookbooks cause he was inspired by learning from someone that has actually lost the weight. I have tried to introduce him to Jimmy but trying tog et him to do anything on the pc other than fantasy football or gaming is a trip

I of course had the Atkins book back in the 90s....helped me out once before I let myself fall back into my addiction. Now I am back on track and down 15lbs so far....only 99 to go

Ha ha..I am STILL waiting for Jimmy Moore's book on low carb success stories to come out! Jimmy, you see I read your blog and remember that you posted that!
Right now, since I'm starting South Beach Phase 1 tomorrow, I have collected all of the books on South Beach, including all the recipe books.
I also have Gary Taubes new book on pre-order from amazon, and can't wait until it ships next month.
I plan on collecting many other books on the low carb lifestyle. I know South Beach is more generous with carbs, but I'll probably be eating a lot less carbs than most on South Beach. I just can't handle them.

As for the success stories book, I had to put that one on hold. However, I might add a few of them in my upcoming book which I am writing now. It's tentatively called VIVA! Livin' La Vida Low-Carb and will continue the story about how low-carb changes lives. Still a few months from publication and I'm getting offers from some bigger publishers who are interested.

Tonight I picked up the 150 Healthies Foods on Earth.
Aside from being a beautiful book, the writing style is easy to read. Very good information but not overwhelming with stuff I would never care to know.
This book is definately a keeper. A nice addition to my growing low carb library. I know I will use this book time and time again. Thanks for the recommendation.

My favorite low-carb book is Neanderthin, by Ray Audette. While my diet isn't paleo, its darn close.

I love that book by Dr. Jonny Bowden, Boo! It's AWESOME!
Another one that I think every low-carber should own is
THE OMNIVORE'S DILEMMA by Michael Pollan. EXCELLENT investigative research about what's in our food.

I've read a lot of the books listed above. Right now I'm reading these two:
Good Calories Bad Calories
Eat Fat Lose Fat by Dr Mary Enig and Sally Fallon
Both are great about explaining why there is no need to fear fats if you are eating low carb. A couple more books that might be of interest to those who are not willing to go all the way with low carb are:
The Carb Cycling Diet by Dr Roman Malkov
The Insulin Resistance Diet by Dr Cheryle R. Hart and Mary Kay Grossman
On the Carb Cycling Diet you alternate between normal carb days, which according to the author promote anabolism and limited carb days which promote catabolism. Might work OK for body builders, but I don't think I do enough anabolic exercise that it would work for me. Guess if you did enough of that type of exercise, it would keep you from going out ketosis?
The Insulin Resistance Diet promotes linking or balancing proteins and carbs and never eating carbs alone. They recommend linking every 15 gm carbs with at least 7 gm protein and never eating more than 30 gm carbs at one time. I bought a copy of the book for one of my friends who is a diabetic because I think it is much better than the diet most Dr recommend for diabetes and I know she is not willing to go completely low carb. I'm looking at it as a possible diet to try once I get to goal weight. The reviews on Amazon.com are very positive for people losing weight and also diabetics.
Next on my reading list is The Brain Trust.
