Would it be okay to have plain full fat yogur on Atkins Induction?

I wouldn't on Induction. Get into the ongoing weight loss phase before you add yogurt back in. Right now, you should be eating meats, eggs, and at least a cup of veggies daily to get your body into ketosis. GO GET 'EM!

If you are doing it by the book, then I would say no.

What is the carb count on the version you want to use?
JediChick
Dave, the package says 12 carbs per cup. I was going count 1 cup as 4 carbs per what I've read on the blog and boards.

Oh, and excuse my spelling.

I've noticed that goat's milk yogurt (can be) lower in carbs than cow's milk yogurt. I was buying the plain Stoneybrook brand (cow's milk) yogurt but I only used small quantities because of the high(er) natural sugar-count.

Then, I found a plain goat's milk yogurt at Trader Joe's (a chain of stores) that has about 1/3 the amount of sugar as the Stoneybrook variety.

Perhaps such a difference would be one factor when deciding whether to have yogurt or not.

Just something to consider.

Yogurt is against the rules for Atkins induction.

Having said that, there's no rule that says you can't draw from a variety of sources to make a decision that works *for you*.

This is all about listening to *your* body. One of the keys to listening is to get everything "quiet" first by starting as simply as possible, with a narrow range of foods known to be effective for weight loss for an incredibly wide range of people.

IMHO, there is also a benefit to learning how very, very satisfying luxurious meat cuts and healthy fats can be. This is your long-term foundation, and everything you learn while building the foundation will be to your benefit in the future.

IOW, I would (and did) opt out myself. That's not because I think it's completely unreasonable for that carb level though.

Skip it, Jedi, use the force! I think Valerie is 100% correct and not just because I like her. It's way too expensive. 12 carbs is 1/3 of my daily limit, sheesh!

No.

It's not on the Acceptable List of Foods for Induction.

I am wondering what everyone's thoughs are on yogurt in general. I have read plenty of information both for and against the addition of yogurt. I will soon be making the transition to maintenance, and was wondering what everyone's experiences have been.

I was never one to eat just yogurt on a regular basis, so if I decide to give it a go, it will be in things like the occasional fresh fruit smoothie, or in the form of a greek yogurt, cucumber sauce that my mother makes with certain things.

Well, here is what mom gave me. I should probably post this in recipes or something, but since I do not know much about cooking, I would feel like a fraud, so I am doing it here laugh.gif

1 cup Fage Greek Yogurt
1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded, shredded and squeezed of excess moisture
1 tablespoon of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all together, and refrigerate for an hour or two before serving.

This is really good with chicken that has been marinated in greek style oil and vinegar salad dressing and grilled. Also good with beef and pork.

thanks Simon I'm on my way to buy a cucumber as soon as I get my shoes on

I know we have all discussed the yogurt issue quite a bit. No, it is not allowed on induction. I printed off the induction allowable food list from the atkins site and whenever I thought about eating something I looked at the list. If it wasn't on it, it didn't eat it.

Now I eat yogurt almost everyday for breakfast. I buy full fat plain Dannon. I eat a 1/2 a cup w/ 3-4 large strawberries cut up and a splash of SF Vanilla DaVinci Syrup. In MANY places they have said the sugar and carb count for yogurt is wrong, much lower because of the live cultures. The count is 4 carbs per cup of FULL FAT PLAIN yogurt. My breakfast this morning was 5 carbs. Last week I lost 3.5 lbs. I would say this has not been a problem for me. Good Luck!!!
