One thing that really bothers me is when somebody has a problem with me and falsely accuses me of something and beyond that won't even come straight to me with their problem. I would like to think society is a little more open and honest than that.
What are some of your pet peeves in general?

Jeff,
I have experienced that the majority of humans are like this.
Do I accept that? Hell no. Just because the majority is that way, doesn't mean they don't have to grow up!!
he he
Without people being annoyed at the status quo, we will never ever have innovation.
The usual response I get is a bewildered answer of: Oh life is like that Dave, you just have to accept it and suck it up!
Heck if we did that we'd all still be riding the horse and buggy and wouldn't have cars or computers.
So my pet peeve is: I hate the attitude of the complacent mob.

I can't stand whining, compulsive lying, bad drivers, people who will do nothing to help themselves but constanly complain of their situation.

Oh, I'm sorry, Lisa! I won't make it so obvious next time.

I can't stand people who refuse to take responsibiliity for their own bad decisions and whine about what bad luck they have. It's not bad luck, it's bad choices.

True, I don't blame anyone but myself for my weight issues. The evidence of what works is out there, but I still don't listen.

This makes me look silly, being an EMT and all.

Not all people who complain are whiney folks who don't take control.
This 'self responsibility' answer gets used too much these days. It's like anyone who wants to discuss something dodgey is branded a complainer!
Umm guys maybe we should go to war. Shut up UN and stop complaining. Self Responsibility!
Umm guys maybe we should change the food at the schools in Britain. Shut up Jamie Oliver and stop complaining! Self Responsibility!
Umm guys maybe we need to do something about climate change. Shut up Al Gore! Petrol is great! Self Responsibility!
Umm guys maybe we should free the slaves? Shut up Lincoln! Self Responsibility!
Umm guys maybe we should love thy neighbour? Shut up Jesus! Self Responsibility!

I was one of the "self responsibility" posters and, Dave, that was not at all the type of stuff I was talking about. I was talking about...
people who don't even look for a job (that are able of course) yet complain that they don't have one
people who stuff junk in their face all day long, don't exercise, then say they "can't" lose weight
people who complain about anything in general that THEY have the most control over
not the slaves, the environment, international relations, what is served to kids in school...
these are all things not under one's personal control
Yes, "love thy neighbor" is a great thing to do, but this thing is one of those things that fall under personal responsibility. Jesus taught his followers to do this, but ultimately, they had to make the decision to do it.
For a non-religious example, I have a lot of rules in society and at work that I am expected to follow. I can choose to follow them, or not to follow them. This does not mean that if I don't there will not be consequences, this just means I have the choice.
Choice and personal responsibility is a big issue where I work. As a case manager I have to encourage the people I serve to assert their rights while still taking responsibility for their actions. This is often a very difficult concept to understand. Yes, Sally has the right to be free from abuse, but she also has the responsibility not to abuse George.
I am very passionate about this because I used to blame everyone in the world for the bad things in my life, except myself. Yes, sometimes bad things happen that we cannot control. But I can control my reaction to them. Once I started taking responsibility for my life I was, and still am, a much happier person, regardless of the circumstances.
As one of my favorite evangelists likes to say..."What are you doing down there UNDER those circumstances". Once I heard that, I vowed to never again use the phrase, "under the circumstances".

My #1 pet peeve is bad drivers. Especially people who want to be obnoxious and slow down or ignore that I am behind them with lights and sirens in the ambulance. This seems to be a new game people are playing, where they think it is funny to try to make the ambulance hit them. Not funny. Not funny at all. If we were responding to them, they would criticize us for taking too long

My #2 pet peeve is people who complain about their job. EMS is a profession where there are always openings and plenty of opportunities to move up/on. So, it bothers me when I get stuck with partners who want to complain all the time and I just want to tell them if you don’t like it here then go somewhere else. It really makes for a long shift.

I agree. Unfortunately there are a few members in my family that do this.
