Two items on my news and current affairs here tonight.

1. Our govenment is looking at tax payer funding education courses for obese people with chronic health issues. The point - to get them to look at losing weight and improving their health by accessing programmes like (you guessed it) Jenny Craig & Weight Watchers...

2. The new you beaut Cambridge Diet has hit our shores. Very simple and successful - you drink a packet soup/shake for breakfast and a packet soup/shake for lunch and get to eat real food for dinner - How satisfying!!!!! The woman they interviewed said she was hungry when she was doing it (duh!) but had to persist because she was going to die if she didn't lose the weight. A feature of the programme is that they train you to maintain - once you have lost all the weight on the powders - by teaching you how to make healthy, low fat choices...

Wonder which I would rather be doing?????

The Cambridge diet has been around for quite a while. I did it about 25 years ago when I was desparate for quick weight loss. 300 calories per day with the packets supposely providing all your required micronutrients. Needless to say, about 12 years later, I was about 180 lbs heavier. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Ask Oprah about Cambridge. Same story different day. What a horrible cycle of losing and gaining and losing muscle those types of products perpetuate

You pay $$$$$ for a weight rollercoaster ride. (Just like WW and the like)

I like rollercoasters, but not that kind. smile.gif

I did Cambridge for a little while, on and off, before I finally found low carb. I used to make the oatmeal at work, it was tolerable... the diet worked, but like any low fat plan, you're miserable all the time and it can only work short term.

but now, yumyum, it's steaks and burgers and seafood and more, it works a hellavu lot better, I feel great, I never get sick, and I'm going on five years, hahaa.. all I can do is shake my head and wonder what the hell I was thinking back then. Just desperate, I guess.

Sounds like they eat most of their daily calories right before bed!

As someone who just started a low-carb WOE after considering WLS, I can answer this. We do this to ourselves because 1) we're desperate to believe what they're selling, and 2) the whole low-carb concept is hard to believe for some of us! I mean, I just started it (third week), I'm having success, feeling good, and learning more and more everyday, but it is just SO HARD to go against the conventional (low-fat/high-carb) wisdom of the day, you know? I got started on another (unnamed) site, got tired of the negativity, and found my way over here. I am really trying to educate myself about this, and it's making more and more sense to me. But even with all the pro-low-carb stuff I'm reading, I still wonder. I feel like I'm cheating. But I'm losing! It's enough to drive me crazy. biggrin.gif

I was just so happy to find an alternative to WLS because I didn't want to go there. I now feel so strongly I can be successful at this without WLS.

Jimmy, I am learning a lot from this site, so thank you for providing the service and the forum for those of us who are at the beginning of our low-carb journey!
