Full Version: WHAT IS MY LOW CARB PLAN?

rolleyes.gif I READ DR. ATKINS BOOK IN THE SEVENTIES AND WENT ON THE
PROGRAM AND DID INDUCTION AND DIDN'T FEEL WELL. LOST 10 LBS. BUT WENT OFF.

THEN I MET HIM WHEN HE CAME TO SOUTHER CA. FOR A CONFERENCE AND WHEN HE WROTE HIS NEW REVOLUTION BOOK. STILL I WASN'T HAPPY WITH
LOW CARB, HATED ANYTHING WITH SOY AND THERE WERE NO OTHER MIXES IN THOSE DAYS AND I KNOW NOW THAT I ATE WAY TOO MUCH FAT.WAY TOO MUCH MEAT AND CALORIES.

WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES FULL BLOWN 2 1/2 YEARS AGO AND WENT ON AMERICAN DIABETES DIET AND MEDS AND THE DIET MADE ME GAIN WEIGHT AND DID NOT HELP MY BLOOD SUGARS EXCEPT TO DRIVE THEM UP.

FINALLY I READ DR. RICHARD K. BERSTEIN'S BOOK ON THE DIABETES SOLUTION.
MY SUGARS ARE FINALLY STABLE AND I USE HIS APPROXIMATE 30 CARBS PER DAY. I DON'T ACTUALLY COUNT BUT I STAY VERY CLOSE WITH HOW LARGE MY
VEGGIE SERVINGS ARE. I EAT NUTS, MAKE CHOCOLATE COVERINGS, EAT MACADAMIAS, HAVE CARBQUICK PANCAKES, MAKE MY OWN SYRUP, EGGS,
BACON CHEESE, I JUST DON'T PIG OUT ON ANYTHING. MY FRUITS ARE VERY
MUCH LIMITED TO BERRIES AND A LITTLE CANTALOUPE EACH DAY. EATING
MEAT IS LIMITED BY PORTION CONTROL. I TRY TO LET MY BODY TELL ME IT'S
SATISFIED BEFORE I GET THAT FULL FEELING. I USE LOW CARB MILK, AND CREAM FOR MY COFFEE. I LOVE HAVING CELERY STUFFED WITH ALMOND BUTTER.
I'M SO HAPPY NOW AND I'M FEELING ENERGETIC AND LOVING THE FOODS THAT I CAN HAVE.

TOMORROW I'M TAKING CARBQUICK ARTISAN BREAD AND MAKING IT INTO
A CHEESE, MUSHROOM AND BLACK OLIVE PIZZA, I MADE MY OWN PIZZA SAUCE AND CARMELIZED ONION AND GARLIC TO PUT INTO THE BATTER. THERE IS A PIZZA PARTY AND MOVIE WITH FRIENDS AND THEY ARE HAVING TAKE OUT PIZZA BROUGHT TO THE HOME. WHEN THEY SMELL MINE BAKING I'LL BE THERE WILL BE THOSE WHO WANT TO TASTE IT. IT WILL BE AWESOME. ALSO TAKING
CHOCOLATE COVERED WALNUTS THAT I MADE MYSELF. laugh.gif

i'VE READ SOUTHBEACH, PROTEIN POWER, SUGAR BUSTERS, DANA CARPENDER'S BOOKS IN FACT I HAVE TASTE TESTED SOME OF HER RECIPES
AND YOU WILL FIND MY NAME IN HER 'ANOTHER 500 RECIPES BOOK' UNDER
VARIOUS RECIPES. I AM CERTAIN THAT IS NOT ALL THE BOOKS I HAVE DEVOURED CONCERNING LOW CARB LIFE. I AM DOWN 52 OR MORE LBS. AND
HAVE ANOTHER 25 OR MORE TO GO. WE WILL SEE HOW IT GOES. i LEARN
SOMETHING NEW HERE ALMOST EVERYDAY. THANKS FOR HAVING THIS SITE.

Barbo, you are amazing. What an encouraging post! Sounds like you finally found a plan that "fits."

I'm just curious, since Bernstein and Atkins are kind of similar. What was it about Atkins that you didn't like and didn't make you feel well? I am on the Paleo Diet, but love hearing about and learning about other plans.

Barbo, you are an inspiring success story and I would have to say the "queen of tweakers" (I'm assuming you are a woman, which get's us in trouble some times). You are a great example of how you have to make a plan(s) your own and then work it. Congratulations!

Today I am one happy camper. I got on scale and am down 1 3/4 lbs. So I've
got 1 lb to break that zero and get into the 160's.

I had such great food all week and then to find a nice weight loss.
I do water aerobics 3 hours per week. Mon,Wed, Fri. I love to cook and what
good food we have. I'm going in the kitchen right now to make some Thai shrimp
and stir fry. YUM Tonight I make the Artisan bread for a really yummy pizza
and salad dinner. Later if time permits I want to make my own recipe for
LC custard. Love having it for a quick brekkie or evening snack. It's so wholesome.

Oh to answer the question concerning why I stopped Atkins in 1972 was because
I didn't go onto the next phase, I tried staying on induction for months and being
in ketosis so long made me feel ill, very sick to stomach and not doing well
at all. I was taking advantage of the cream and butter and eating way too much
fat, not enough veggies. So of course I really wasn't following Atkins plan,
he never planned for us to stay on induction. I got the opportunity to talk with
him personally when he come to Orange County, Ca. (what a great man)
and he was disappointed to hear that lots of us were not following his plan
and going through the phases. He actually took time to speak with me after
his lecture. So I made myself sick then went onto WW and as I always say it
should be called AH Plan "Always Hungry Plan" When I got diabetes I
went on American Diabetic Plan and it had too high carbs and my sugars were
skyrocketing and my weight was staying way up there hovering around 200.
So finally I started doing Atkins/Bernstein at about 30 grams carb per day,
and only healthy carbs from veggies, salads, lc milk, cheese, a few berries,
some cream not over doing, I eat fat, healthy kind, I do butter and cream
cheese keeping my eye on portion control as welll.

I hope I didn't talk too long. and hope that I answered your questions.

Down another 1 and 3/4 lbs. So happy. Love the Atkins/Bernstein
approach. My blood sugars are stable and I'm slowing loosing.

Top Weight 225/ present weight 170 3/4 goal weight for now 150
