Hello all and welcome to all of my old Kimkins friends who have seen the light and moved to this new forum.
I am 30 years old and my current weight is 229 pounds. I started my weight loss journey in January at 263 pounds. I was able to stay on Atkins for awhile but stalled for 2 months after the first month and had 1 cheat night.........that lasted a few months. So I had to start over in July. I am happy to say that although I joined KK I quickly realized that I had to adjust the diet for health reasons and basically put myself back on Atkins. The only real adjustment to the popular Atkins I have made is that I am not buying into the whole "net carb" craze. That works for some people but my body sees a carb for what it is.........a carb. That was what had me stalled.
Things are running very smooth now and i am excited to be back on a forum where I can journal in peace and know that I am not getting ripped off.
I will post the same pics I had at the KK forum very soon here. You will be able to see the most beautiful 3 year old girl you have ever seen and my lovely bride.
Believe me, it is worth seeing my ugly mug to see my daughter. She is beaming with life. Her eyes tell a tale of a dance you will never see again!

Hey from another former Kimkinite. It's nice to be able to write what you think in your own journal isn't it?! The atmosphere is definately lighter around here.
I was just thinking today as I read the '72 Atkins book about net vs. total carbs. I think I'm gonna go with you on this one. I think I need to stick to total carbs, at least for now. Maybe I'll rethink that when I get to maintenance. That's a looooong way away. May I ask what veggies/carbs did you add back first and when did you start to add them back?
I look forward to seeing your daughter!

Hilary: Thank you for the welcome! I am very happy with my new home. I think that Jimmy brings at least 70% of the total goofy on this site. Just look at his avatar.

I added spinach back first. I was just about 2 weeks in on KE and really noticed that I felt weak and an overall feeling that something was wrong. Now I eat as much leaf as I want. Any other veggies I eat are a side dish so I keep them proportion to my other foods. I am NOT using a food scale. I have also transitioned from lean proteins to "lean-ER" proteins. So now instead of just chicken breast, I can now eat any part of the chicken. I eat a steak but not every night. I am not eating ground beef but I am eating ground turkey (not just breast). I have never felt happier. As of this morning I am officially at my lowest weight ever at an even 227 pounds. And that is just 2 days after I ate 35 (count em, 35) chicken wings!!!
Ginger and JaneJane: Thank you for the well wishes and welcome. I am excited to be here. Thank you for visiting my journal!
Oceanblue: I am glad you are on the same boat as I am. Let me know how you are progressing. When I have the "low carb ice cream" or "Low carb crackers" I do not gain weight, but I do not lose it either. And I don't mean that it just slows the weight loss. I mean it actually brings it to a screeching halt. So now, when I need a cheat day, I will have a low carb dessert item!
This post is getting long and I have 2 stories from yesterday I want to share. Stay tuned for more.....

So yesterday I had to work late so I decided I needed a coffee push. There is a Starbucks that is pretty close to my work so I took a break and walked there for exercise and a coffee treat. I walked up to the counter and asked "what do you have that is sugar free, frozen, and caffeinated?" The very nice person behind the counter replied "Oh easy. We have a sugar FREE cinnamon dolce frap" I said "great. I will take one". She called the order out to the barista who looked at me and asked "do you want the light version? It has even LESS sugar." I looked puzzled and then asked "How do you get less sugar than sugar FREE?" They both looked at me like I was crazy and made my drink.
While they were making my drink I went back to the counter and asked where I could view the nutritional information of my drink. They did NOT have any info on hand (I think that is illegal) but she informed me I could see it online. As I enjoyed my drink and walk back to work I decided to stop drinking it about 1/4 the way through a venti until I researched it. And I am glad I did! It turns out that my drink had almost 30 grams of carbs and sugar! This in what I was told was a "sugar free" drink item. If I was diabetic (thank Dr. Atkins and God that I am not) that would be enough sugar to really mess with my health!
I immediately wrote Starbucks an email explaining the situation.
I think everyone should send an email voicing their concern with the way the "sugar free" drinks are being marketed.
I forgot what other story I wanted to share. Hopefully I remember soon so I can post.

Ok I remembered the other story!
The biggest loser had their season premier last night. I am a BIG fan of this show. I have been overweight my whole life. I know what it feels like to be picked last for everything involving physical activity. I know what it feels like in high school gym to come in last place on everything. These things hurt. They cause damage that is very long term. You can see these things come out in this show. It is so motivating. I was teary eyed most of the episode.
I picked up on something very interesting last night. The blue team had the biggest weight loss of the night. It seemed impossible because of the size of people on the team vrs the size of the red team. The last person to weigh in was a 62 year old male. Historically on this show the largest males lose the biggest numbers. This guy was not the largest at all. I am pretty sure he was either the lightest guy or at least in the bottom 2, but he not only lost the most weight in the first weigh in for this season, but for the whole show's history! Over 30 lbs!!!
How did he do it? I was really trying to pay attention to the diets that were assigned to each team. Bob (blue team) told his team to eat their entire portion of healthy carbs no later than lunch every day. Their main portions were fat and protein and their entire dinner was fat and protein with NO carbs. Although it is not full Atkins it is still a version of the low carb lifestyle. The red team leader put everyone on the trusty old food pyramid (at least very close to it) for every meal. Although they had good results (thank you physical activity) they did not come out ahead even though they had the physical advantage.
I found that interesting and thought I would share with my new friends here.

Hey Jowest, I've blogged quite often about "The Biggest Loser" and stumbled on the
secret to the success of ALL of the winners so far--it's LIVIN' LA VIDA LOW-CARB!
In fact,
Bob Harper is a fan of my blog and even let me
interview him two years ago. Both he and Jillian are fans of low-carbohydrate principles.
You can see all of my BL columns at

Hi, Jowest, and welcome.
From your posts, it looks as though you have a good grasp of low carb, have made it a lifestyle. You're right about some of the "treats" making you come to a halt. No one ever complained that salad and lc veggies made them stall!
One thing I beg to differ with - my 2 year old granddaughter is the most gorgeous little one in the world! But I'll bet your 3 year old comes in a close 2nd, but that's just the opinion of a proud grandma, of course!

I am sorry I am such a dunce. I just uploaded the photos to flicr and tried to post the URL. When I hit post this site hit me with this error message:
You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is:

Sorry, Josh. You have to have the image online somewhere to be able to post it here. If you don't have a way to upload the image online, then send it to me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. I can upload it to my Flickr account (which is FREE, by the way at Flickr.com) and then send you the URL. Lemme know!

Ok Jimmy. Here is where it gets weird again. I tried that. It won't work. Check out what the actual link looks like in my signature when I cut and paste it now:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1292/136854...df767b20a_m.jpgCompare that to what I originally left in the above post:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/13400598@N06/1368545889/ Why is it different when you did it? Here is my theory:
I think that when I am actualy signed into Flickr the links look different. I think when you clicked on the link, it changed because you are an outside viewer. I need to figure out how to be an outside viewer when I copy the url.

Make sure you are choosing the SMALL size because the big ones cannot format properly. When you go to Flickr, click on ALL SIZES and then choose the smallest and get the URL from that. Lemme try to help you with that.

Hello all
I wanted to stop in for a quick update. Looks like my weight has stalled out. That is fine. I was due a stall. I am stuck at 227.
I just went to the KK forums support center to check on my request for refund and to my surprise, they deleted the request. No denial, no notification. Just simply deleted it. I opened another case with them requesting info on why it was deleted and what the status of the original request (for refund) is.
I am not holding my breath but I will not stop opening a case until I have my money back.

Sep 14 2007, 3:30pm
Maybe they are thinking.."out of sight out of mind" so they deleted it. Who knows. Keep hounding them. Have you joined the class action suit that they are getting together?? I saw something about it today and an email to write to if you want to jump on board.
I hate stalls.......but we all know that as long as we eat right that scale will start mving downward again in no time!
Have a good one!

Hello all. Here are a few quick updates!
I finally broke my stall and have made it past 227 pounds! I am now 226.6. I know that is not huge but I held that for 2 days now so I know it is not a fluke and I know it will be lower tomorrow.
Kimkins refund?
I went in to check status of my second request for refund and again, it was deleted with no explanation or notification.
I have now entered another request this time stating it would be nice to at least be notified of why the tickets are being deleted without the issues being addressed one way or the other.

One more thing:
If anyone has a "The Old Spaghetti Factory" in your town listen up!
Although you might think that they are the provider of poison, think again!
I stop in and order their "Creamy Pesto" salad dressing to go because it is easily the BEST salad dressing I have ever tasted AND it has 1g carb per serving!!!!
It also works very well with Chicken or as a sauce. I like to add extra grated parm cheese for even more kick. If you like a little spice, mince some garlic and mix it up!
YUMMY!

Hello everyone!
It has been a long time sense the last post. I am on a huge stall but that is ok. My hair is not falling out and I am NOT decreasing my caloric intake (I love fat).
One day I will get past this 226 weight for good. I hit 225 once but it lasted one day.
Interesting side note, I have now requested from kimkins a refund on 4 separate occasions. Each one of the first 3 request were simply deleted and they acted like I didn't exist. Out of respect, I did NOT post on any thread my feelings about the site. I only posted on my personal journal (I reposted that here on this journal I think) my reasons for leaving so my friends would know why I left and where I went. I tried to log on today so I could read, not post, the threads to see if anyone was talking about the news story that Jimmy mentioned on his blog today. It turns out I have officially been banned! I opened a new ticket demanding a refund this time because I am not getting what I paid for. I am sure it will go unanswered.
Anyway, I guess I will just pass the time on my stall by eating some chicken wings tonight and watching "The Office". Man I love that show.
Check out Jimmy's youtube video today. The subject matter is one I hope becomes a huge focal point in further discussions in the medical world. Diet and Mental Health.
I may post here in my journal soon about my wife's successes battling OCD Anxiety and Depression using the low carb lifestyle!
Take care all.

Hello again. I started my own blog. It is not going to be related to low carb. It is going to be related to my life journey. Spiritual and physical. I have been learning a lot lately about life and other things.
The blog is designed to allow me to type what I am thinking that day. I am hoping to get feedback from people who read it to help guide me on my journey. I am a huge fan of poker so there will be a lot of that I guess but also, I am struggling with some deep spiritual issues that are very fascinating and very exciting. It is a great time in my life and I am happy to share.
