July, 2007!
Influence of a diet very high in vegetables, fruit, and fiber and low in fat on prognosis following treatment for breast cancer: the Women's Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) randomized trial."Among survivors of early stage breast cancer, adoption of a diet that was very high in vegetables, fruit, and fiber and low in fat
did not reduce additional breast cancer events or mortality during a 7.3-year follow-up period."
August, 2007!
Nutrient dietary patterns and the risk of breast and ovarian cancers.High meat and fat intakes were associated with lower risks of breast cancer. High starch diets were associated with higher risks of breast cancer. But, listen to your doctor. The AMA. The ADA. The media. They will tell you what's best for you. Don't pay attention to the research.
Obesity is very bad for breast cancer risk and long term survival. This is known, and I'm mad. I have a relative who died of breast cancer. She was afraid of LC after she was prescribed the high-carb/low-fat/known-to-cause-weight-gain diet. It worked the way it's known to work.
What else is the research showing in relation to breast cancer? EAT FLAX!

Valerie I will read this new info as soon as I can, and thanks for sharing. I have heard of three cases of breast cancer in women age 40'ish in my circle of friends in the last month. It's scary and I've wondered the same thing. Is it all the low fat eating they are doing? I just lost a beloved pet to lymphoma. I did a lot of research on the subject, and guess what diet is recommended by vet researchers. Low carb. Sugar feeds cancer. Needless to say my other three dogs are now low carbing right along with me and they love it. I have always cooked for my dogs because I refuse to feed them the garbage they scrape up off the floor and turn into dog food. They are my family and how can you do that to someone you love. Sorry to get off point, but I guess my point is sugar and cancer go hand in hand.

My sister was just told to put her dog on a low carb diet so that she could lose weight. It was the first time I had ever heard of anythng like that.
I haven't ate corn for years (even before low carbing) because it is used to fatten up cows and pigs. DH thought I was crazy . . . . . but he's actually starting to listen to me when I talk about eating low carb!

Cute dress, Robin!
I feel sad for my relative today, especially, reading this new research just in.
I just remember that she was so scared to do LC because the "lifesaving diet" was supposed to be high carb, low cal, low fat.
I was dropping my weight like crazy and family members were amazed. I honestly think she would have joined me but she was scared to do anything but what her doctor prescribed....
And it's *known* that the diet he prescribed causes and exacerbates obesity and put her at greater risk.

Valerie,
I am so sorry to hear about your relative. Some Dr's really need to catch up with the times. My Dr is very pro low carb/Atkins. (Sorry I missed the part about your relative when I first skimmed your post.)
Thank you for the comment about the dress . . . I changed it already! It is my logo for my shop. I will be putting it back up in a few days when I get tired of the one I have now!

This off the breast cancer topic, but it makes me sad to see how doctors play god with people and their diets w/o research to back it up.
I had a grandfather who had a mild heart attack and got worse and worse as he really missed his meat, eggs, and *real* butter. He used to talk about the good old days when, he said, "People ate whatever they wanted to, lots and lots of meat and eggs and butter and cream, and 'those old-timers' never had all this cancer and heart disease." (What did he know?)
My grandfather and grandmother used to buy a pound of butter, once a year, and keep it in the freezer for extra-special "cheats" throughout the year, and they gave up cream. They didn't like margarine and Coffee Rich as much as they did the real things, but they made sacrifices "for their health."
They thought it best to do whatever the good doctor said. I could make a long list of family members who have gone on or are on diets not well supported by research.
But the good doctor, the good nutritionist, the good nurse.... Don't they know best?

I'm sorry?? What was that?? Please say it louder!
And there are people on this forum in the Zero carb thread saying red meat causes cancer!!!
Yet another article that proves the Bear is right, and Dr. Atkins is right.

When the doctor told my mom that she had breast cancer. She said "I did everything 'they' said and ate healthy and ate everything 'they' said to eat. Why did I get cancer?" He said "Who the h*ll are they and what the h*ll do they know"!!!

PERFECT!
EXACTLY!
Isn't it funny all the critisism Atkins get for it's program....yet obviously NO ONE IS FOLLOWING IT WHO CRITISISES IT!
LOL
As if the Atkins program is the cause of cancer????
What we must understand too is that there are other causes of cancer.
Diet is the the protective be all that ends all!
