Hi friends. I'm Kelly, a SAHM of 2 toddlers, 3 and 2 y.o.. I just started the Atkins plan last Thursday after leaving KK. We had a great group of SAHMs over there, and their support was invaluable. I'm hoping to see many of you over here, and looking forward to meeting new SAHMs too to help keep me accountable, keep me on track, and to support each other. It's a great place to vent instead of eating off plan! Please come on in and introduce yourself.
High weight 2000 approx 250+ (didn't get on the scale until I had lost some and was just below 250 then)
Down to 158 on Atkins then pleasantly got off track with kiddos

Valerie - Welcome, welcome, welcome - OMG 11 kids, you're my hero! I think I am losing my mind sometimes keeping my 2 toddlers safe, sound and happy, but clearly I am doing it wrong! You must have enough good ideas and info to start a SAHM blog for all of us! Looks like you are doing fantastic on your plan, only 13 lbs to go!!! what is Atkins OWL? Is it different than DANDR? I'm just getting back into it, so I'm kind of new all over again.

Hi, Kelly!!!! I think I'm going to like it here. While I was in Texas I really felt like I had been missing a lot with that other way of eating. I could have easily stuck to Atkins without having to fix my own meals. That's three weeks I can't get back. Oh, Well!!! Here's to a brand new start.

Traci - OMG, it's you!!!!! I think you're going to like it here too! That pic of Shannie is too cute for words! Know what, don't worry about 3 weeks lost. I mean seriously, 3 weeks? We live, we learn, we grow. It's the journey babe, we're gonna get there!

Kelly, I fixed my profile so it shows Atkins DANDR 2002. "OWL" is Ongoing Weight Loss, which is the phase I'm in.
LOL.... I thought four children was the hardest number--but I think it was partly that when #4 was born, #1 was not quite 5 yo.... I would classify those days as grueling. Very tough. Very blessed and wonderful, and I have no regrets. But definitely challenging and tiring.
After that, as my children started to get bigger it got easier.
I heard once that the best way to have a big family is to have your teenagers first (HA!), and I really believe it! At this point our preschoolers are totally out-numbered by more mature people! It's us vs. them and we are winning! LOL....
Seriously, when my new baby was born in March, my biggest problem was access. If it wasn't for breastfeeding, I probably would never have seen my little guy with so many people wanting to hold and kiss him!

Hey! Thanks for the post at Kimkins and thanks for starting SAHM thread over here! I look forward to learning more about Atkins. When did you start induction? Yesterday? I have lots of questions and things I'd like to just talk about. Maybe we could get together for lunch one day this week? Or a workout? Let me know!
I've got to go pick up Julia from school.

Yeah - sweetmelissa is here too, wahoo!

I have officially been banned from Kimkins. Not sure whether it was my last post at the SAHM thread, or the one at JuneBugs thread letting Supahmamas friends know that she had been banned and where to find her, but either way, I'm out.
To answer your questions, yes, I started Atkins induction on Monday, and it feels great. I will weigh in on Thursdays and Mondays I think. As far as lunch or a workout goes, sure, I'm in. Just PM me or email me and we'll work it out. I'd love to get together. I would really encourage you to get the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book so that you have all the info. You can just jump in and start with the chapter on induction so you know what to eat, but you want to read it all because there is so much good info! We'll talk more later, I gotta go pick up my son.

Hey ladies.
Nice to see Sweet Melissa and Traci here. It is WyattsMomma. I came over here to see whats going on. I haven't started any diet yet because we are remodeling our very out of date and very small kitchen. I probably won't be done wth it until next week. But I think it will be a great start. I have a difficult time reading books all the way through although I am considering getting the Aktins book Kelly mentioned. I will be checking in with you all soon.

WAAAAAAAAAA-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I am sooooo happy! Well, except for I just wrote a HUGE post and my computer hiccupped or something so I lost it! It's never as eloquent the second time around but let me give it a try.
Kelly already knew that I was here and I said hi to dragonfly the other day, so now I am going to start officially happy dancing because..
TRACI AND MELISSA ARE IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Traci - I think I am now home. I don't think I'll be spending much time over there anymore. I hope you stay here, too. I'm so glad to know that things are settling down with your family. Just keep an eye on your DD, know what I mean? That avatar is wonderful - Shannie is just gorgeous!
Melissa - where did you get your avatar? I love it!
Valerie - hello! Nice to meetcha! I have enough trouble handling my 2.. I don't know how you do it with 11! Are you a WAH contractor, or do you work for a company that allows you to work at home? I would love to able to do that!
Okay mamas, here is my news.... you know that I was cycling Atkins and low carb/moderate fat, well, the scale wasn't my friend over there and it's still not really (I guess I am just a slow loser), so I decided to not weigh much, I'm going by how my clothes fit. Today I tried on a pair of jeans that I outgrew really quickly a few years ago so they're almost new. They fit.. and they are a size........ 16!! I am so happy!
Anyway once I get back on the scale I am going to put my ticker up but I like this going by the clothes kind of thing.
It's about storytime so I'd better run. I'll check back later.

Joyful(Dana)-I feel the same way. I was feeling so SNATTY!!! I was also starting to have gall bladder problems. I felt so bad some days that I didn't want to eat. Unfortunately, I still wasn't losing any weight. I was so focused on losing that I didn't care about how awful I felt until I went to Texas. Those three weeks made me understand how crazy that woe was making me. I'm going to start induction tomorrow and start fresh.
wyattsmon/dragonfly-I'm glad you here too. Hope everything goes smoothly with your kitchen remodel? KIT
soon2bslim(Kelly)-I guess I'll probably be the next to be banned, because I'm going to ask for a refund. Have you read anything about the class action suit against Kimmer on the web?

Joyful - that is fantastic news, I'm doing the happy dance for you over here too! Size 16 = having the option to shop in non-plus size stores! That alone is fantastic, is it not? Once I got to size 12 I was happy to cut up my LB card, because even if I wanted to, I can't fit into their stuff anymore (a nice place to be) and I'm not going back!!!!!
Hey, I weighed this am and if you check out my ticker you'll notice that it's official, my month long stall is over, and I'm down 3 lbs! I can't believe that I could have been eating so much better on Atkins and have been losing. Who knew? Well, lots of people I guess, but not us poor starving saps over at Kimkins anyway! Wait, "saps" would be carby, so that wouldn't be right, I guess up poor starving "4oz grilled skinless chicken breasts dry enough to choke on" over at Kimkins would be more accurate!

Joyful, I sell used and rare books on the 'net. Amazon, eBay, my own web site, and about 5 other places. I started my biz in 1995 for homeschooling families, but now it's expanded to students, researchers, schools, libraries, collectors, etc. We were able to take it full time about 18 mos ago, and now my dh is a WAH/SAHD, which we looooooooove.

Sep 12 2007, 7:28am
Wow
Valerie that's wonderful! Congrats on your successful biz. And to have your DH home too... that's great. I am still looking for a WAHJ to try and help out around here but we are doing okay for now. I think finances are tight all over these days.
LOL
Kelly! And, only us "been there, done that" people would understand the chicken breast thing. Funny it seems like that is the only thing I ate some days. Maybe it was because I just wasn't hungry. Then I got over it!
Thanks for happy dancing for me. I can't wait until I post that I'm in a 14! It's funny, size 14 sounds so big to some people but for me that's skinny clothes! I have a really large frame and would be skin and bones in a size 10! (done that, too.. my DH told me I looked like a refugee back then...)
Traci - oh hon, I'm sorry to hear about your gall bladder troubles. My hair started falling out some but I think that is under control now. It's amazing how we can train our brains to believe things, isn't? Thin is wonderful, and I will never, EVER, pretend that it's not. BUT... it's not wonderful at the expense of our health. We have families to take care of! Did you ask for your refund? How did that go?
What about a lawsuit? That is news to me... I have heard that people are really mad that they got banned with no refund but I hadn't heard of suing. What's the scoop?
dragonfly - I still want to call you Wyatts Momma! Sometimes change is a good thing, though! I hope your remodel goes smoothly. Keep us informed on how you are doing!
Well I got a little bit of quiet this morning, now I am going to go get DS out of bed. He's usually up really early so this was a treat for me. A cup of coffee in peace! (coffee with cream, thankyouverymuch...)

Yeah, Anita and Tasha are here. We've almost got the entire group here.
I started induction today. I haven't weighed in yet. I'm kind of scared to see what it's going to day. Also my TOM is just around the corner and I know I'm retaining water.
DD is all moved into her apartment and I've been shocked by how well she's doing. She wrote to her BF and told him that he has her love but Shannen has her heart. She has to straighten up and break the ties to those who can't walk the straight and narrow. Ah, I think my little girl is finally growing up. We're going to work out the paperwork with my lawyer and avoid going back to court. We are getting permanent guardianship but just as a technicallity. DD father told her that if anything else happens they will take Shannen. So, if we already have Guardianship he can't do that and then Shannen can stay on dh insurance; which is much better than the states.
Joyful-Everything is back to normal on this end; gallbladder has cleared up and and muscle aches are gone.
Anita-Thank you, I saw the information you posted on both sites regarding the stay at home work. I've already applied and done my interview, now I'm justing waiting to hear back.

Dana - I don't know much about the lawsuit, but Jimmy had this link to it on a different thread here, and I went ahead and sent an email to the address at the website. http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business...anyID=100055868 In case I forgot to mention it, did anyone notice that my ticker FINALLY moved! After my month long stall on KK, I lost 3 lbs in 5 days on Atkins, and the first 3 days I really pigged out, albeit (sp) in a lo-carb way, I've only been on induction since Monday. I LOVE Dr. Atkins!

Amy - Maybe it's just my kids' ages, and I hope it's just a phase, but lately I just feel like their maid, cook and taxi, and that's it! Absolutely NO appreciation there. I pray that changes soon, but with a preteen daughter, that's not likely!
Sparkys Girl
Sep 13 2007, 3:51pm
Oh.. I feel all those things too Dana. It's hard enough when they do appreciate it, but when you feel like no one cares it makes you wanna throw up you hands and say forget it. I'm still trying to find balance between everything going on in our lives. It's not easy.
I hope things change for you as well. Mine aren't always appreciative, but I remind them a lot that they should be (can we say Mom guilt trip? LOL)
You could try this little experiment, if you think they are old enough: Do NOTHING for them for a day or so. Make sure the have access to food (sandwich stuff, etc.) but don't cook for them. Make them do it themselves. Same for laundry, etc. A couple of days of doing it on their own might very well remind them how good they really have it! There's nothing more miserable than a vain teen who has "nothing clean to wear!!!" LOL (Something a family counselor once suggested for a similar situation).

Sep 13 2007, 4:29pm
Amy - I didn't realize you were homeschooling. Mine are only 2 and 3 now, but I'm worried about public schools these days, and I have been giving serious thought to homeschooling. I first heard about it when I was in college, and I thought it was an amazing idea. I've been a bit intimidated by it, but my husband and I really want to spend time traveling with our children as they get old enough, and it isn't very feasible to be taking them out of school all the time. We want to make our travels part of their education, so homeschooling seems like a natural choice. I am not sure where to start on seriously researching the topic. I don't want to keep putting off getting serious about getting more info and find that 2 years have passed and it's time to send my oldest off to kindergarted before I've really got it figured out. Where would you suggest I start with gathering info?

Sep 13 2007, 4:57pm
LOL Kelly. I was the same way. But believe me.. you CAN do it. And it's very rewarding! Valarieslivingbooks homeschools as well.. she has 11 kids! If she can do it with 11, we can do it with 2!

My first suggestion would be to go to
www.hslda.org. There is a lot of the legal stuff there you'll need to know, depending on what state you live in. You'll want to join when you are ready to start. For a small monthly or yearly fee (how every you want to pay) you get legal council on all things homeschool related. It's gives great peace of mind knowing you have a whole slew of layers at your call should legal issues arise.

It also depends on what kind of curriculum you want. There are seveal that are Christian based, so that would obviously make a difference on what you want your child taught.
Why don't you pop in at our homeschooling thread and ask so you can get ideas from us all. Everyone has different ideas and methods.. honestly, it's alot like dieting. You have to find what works for you and your child.

Here's the thread:

Sparky's Girl and Valerieslivingbooks~ WELCOME to the SAHM thread! How neat that you two both homeschool. Right now I feel blessed in having found a good Christian private school, but I often think of what I would do if something happened and we either couldn't afford it or like the school anymore. Good to have the homeschooling info. Thanks for sharing!
Kelly~ I'm glad you asked about the homeschool info. I too fear I'll put off getting more info till I really need it. As of late, I feel better getting to know as much as I can in every aspect and not procrastinating like I usually do. I think it's part of getting older and having been through more (thinking Kimkins, LOL). Congrats on your 3 lbs!!! WOOHOO! You obviously made the right choice to switch!
Asied~ You are so nice to have shared that WAH info. I wish it was available in my area!!! I'm in Vegas and they said they don't currently have anything here.

Do you know of any other legit companies? When did you start SouthBeach? How is it going?
Dragonfly~ Good to "see" you! How are you doing? I was thinking of you today. For mostly selfish reasons, LOL. Seems all 3 kids are home sick. Julia (7) and Alyssa (3) both temp lost their voices. They all have coughs, and baby Gabe (1 yo) has a runny, runny nose. Plus those sneezes. Anyways, I don't want to just put some OTC medicine in them and know our Dr. will probably just prescribe something similar. Do you have any more natural methods? TIA for any help!
Joyful~ Thanks soooooooo much for the awesome welcome to this site!

It's great over here, for sure! And thanks! I found my avatar on photobucket.com, I THINK. I have a habit of saving any pics/avatars I run across that I like. And a WOOOOHOOOOO for your "new" 16s!! How awesome!!! KUTGW girl!!
Tasha~ Good to "see" you over here too! So, are you offically back to Atkins now?
Tlacey~ LUCKY!! Make sure to let us know what happens with the "job". Sounds like a great opportunity! Glad Anita shared the info.
Cari~ I hope you visit OFTEN!! You can have two homes, you know!!
