My diet is right now about 90% carnivorous. I'm working in more vegetables lately though. I find that by staying very low carb I can go long periods without hunger; plus I think I just do well with a more restricted diet. I rarely get above 20 grams of carbs in a day.

Hwy666...I'm with you. Never liked veggies much and am so happy to be doing Atkins 72 again and having only the few I do like and a lot more meat!! Just makes life so much easier than being restricted with only 1 or 2 items. Good luck.

I don't know the difference between Atkins 72 and DANDR. I thought I had both books but when I got them out I found that I have
3 DANDR books!
I am going to try to locate an Atkins 72 now. I am re-reading DANDR.
I am currently counting carbs and calories. I stay under 20 carbs and at about 1000 calories. I am currently gaining and losing the same 1-2 lbs over the last few days so I need to figure that out.

Look on ebay. I got my Atkins '72 hardbound for $1.

Under 1000 calories is not enough food. It's a surefire recipe for starvation.

I got my Atkins 72 (lost the last in a fire) at Amazon.com for $6 I've never seen the DANDR one yet...

Kat, if you want DANDR I found 3 of them when I went to look for mine! I would be happy to send you one of them.

I don't know why I would need 3 of the same book!

It might not be enough food for some but my Dr told me to eat between 800-1000 calories a day. I have averaged about 900 calories for the last 6 weeks and seem to be doing fine.

I respect what your doctor told you as well, but Jeff might be on to something in his sweet genteel way. Please check out the last couple of posts by Dr. Mike Eades. He is dealing with the calories in/calories out question and he demonstrates very clearly why calories don't matter. It's really not about controlling hunger, it's about your metabolism.
For all you people who like the food counters, Dr. Eades actually uses one made by the USDA and his results may surprise you.

I am a KK refuge and was on 500 -600 calories and stalled for months
Now, I had well over 2000 calories yesterday(not quite counting them) and like 120g of fat and I lost .6lbs last night, .4lbs the nite before, .4lbs before that...
I didn't believe it at first either, but now I am watching ratios not calories and boy howdy am I much happier and losing weight.

My mama's not here so it's alright for me to go ahead and say..."I don't like my veggies!" There...I said it...and it felt good! Woo-hoo!
I'm fifty four years old and have never been a big fan of veggies, never! However, since I'm doing LC, I have found a few I actually like [asparagus, cabbage and broccoli], but I don't eat veggies at every meal...maybe 3 to 4 times a week. And I don't even worry about it! Hey, if you like 'em, wear yourself out. They're just not always my cup 'o tea!
Because of this, I normally keep my carbs around 20 per day. This works out great for me. I do have some hard cheese occasionally and maybe even some plain whole milk yogurt and so far, neither seem to stall me.
I've always loved meat of most any kind. It's my mainstay, well, except for eggs of course.
Where's the Beef???

Outstanding, absolutely outstanding. This was my experience on Atkins too, once I started paying attention to ratios instead of calories, it made all the difference. The funny thing is, that is exactly what Groves is saying. I have just begun reading Protein Power (even though I read Dr. Eades' blog every day) and he also considered ratios with the formation of his diet. Humans have not adapted to a carbohydrate-heavy diet. When we eat close to the way our ancestors ate prior to the agricultural revolution, we enjoy better health.
PP4Life, we're with you. Bring on the [fatty] beef!
All the best,
Charles

I was never good with ratios myself. All I know is that we do not need what the nutrition mafia says we do for good health.

This is my diet in a nutshell. I think I might call it the "avoidance diet"; I avoid what "they" say I should eat.

I'm re-re-re-re-reading my Atkins '72 book. I have all 3 versions and this one is better in my opinion. The newest one allows sugar alcohols, which stall me.
It is amazing, at one time, I think I could have quoted the book, now I realized how much I forgot.
BTW day 3 and doing great!! Mood good, I can concentrate at work and I love my food.
I also missed my fiber, sadly another discouraged thing on Kimkins because it may add weight!!

BTW love the smileys we have here.

Ok, so hi all. I thought I was posting but instead I sent an email. Ah, technology! I was a '72er and am back again. Total weight loss so far, 15. I got serious and woke up about 3+ weeks ago. Just this week found this site. Trying to stay focused and strong. I am between '72 and DANDR. '72 is all I really know. Still trying to figure out the difference. Want this to work for me and make it my WOL again. Thanks for any support.
I have walked and worked out all week. 4x walking, slow aerobics other 3 days. Drinking lots of water... so the bathroom is my best bud. Every day I need to do something for me,

This is my plan

I am a serious dieter once I finally get with the program, and today is day one of Induction. I ate *gasp* 1271 calories today, which is practically scandalous on my previous diet Kimkins, and I am feeling all sorts of ED thinking and guilt. I'm trying to get over it though, as I don't have time to feel guilty about what I EAT, for crying out loud... *sighs*
I hit my 20 carb mark right on the nose today though when I had some forbidden peanut butter. I should do better tomorrow though!
I'm glad there is an Atkins 72 forum. I am sure if I had stuck to the original rules of Atkins and not been suckered in by sugar alcohols and loose rules they have for DANDR nowadays, I wouldn't have had such a time losing this weight.
So onward and downward!
