One of the men at work, who is diabetic, came up to me today asking if I noticed that he had lost weight. due to my 75 pound loss, a lot of people check in with me on a regular basis. He said he had lost 10 pounds and was working hard on a tred mill machine every day. I asked about his diet and he said "I've switched to all whole grains." AGHGHGHGHGHGH
I sort of flinched and asked if he had ever checked into any low carb diets. I said I would see if I could find him any information so that he could read up on it and see if it was right for him.
Went to my computer and there was todays blog - all about low carb and diabetes. Hows that for timing! I sent it too him with all the links so hope he looks into it. The more you know............

I think it's more important for diabetics than anyone to learn that they do have a choice of treatments. You did your good deed for the day!

GREAT JOB, Zyarah! Education is the foundation for the low-carb revolution that is underway. Until we can clearly explain and articulate the reasons WHY people should be livin' la vida low-carb (especially diabetics), then we can never move forward.

Happy to arm you with the facts to help your co-worker. Let us know how he's doing and feel free to have him e-mail me directly if he has any questions. biggrin.gif

Hopefully he will take the advice and make the connection!

I wish him well!

zyarah, low carb has made a difference in my glucose control. Let him know other diabetics have been successful with it, both for blood sugar and losing weight. Encourage him to try it and let his glucose meter be the judge. Common sense approach to diabetes: Use your glucose meter to see which foods raise blood sugar. Then avoid or strictly limit those that do.

I have found that whole grains still raise my blood sugar, so I have pretty much cut out grains. Guess I am, as the critics say, cutting out an entire "food group," but I better off for it. smile.gif

Dr Vernon's site is an excellent place to send people too. She doesn't post often, but when she does it's worth the read!

If you send Dr V an email she will respond. She is also available for a phone consult with your MD if s/he needs help with a low carb diet.
