Hi eveyone,
i'm new to this site.Love it by the way!
Does anyone else not like veg or salad? I used to juice my veg to get my vitamins but know i can't as they will be high carb. Will this diet be safe for me? or does anyone have any suggestions as i like this diet because i don't feel hungry.
Anyone got ant meal ideas? thanks.

Eh. Well, first of all, which specific diet are you following, if any?
Your best bet, if you haven't already, is to pick one and then read the accompanying book. It will answer a lot of your questions about what to eat, who the diet is and is not safe for, and whether vegetables are necessary. I can't really answer your questions as you didn't specify which diet you're on.
Many people find that they learn to like and even crave veggies once they start eating them regularly. Sometimes different preparation methods help...for instance, if your mother always boiled canned green beans till they were mushy and tasteless, try lightly steaming some fresh or frozen ones. Me personally, I do not like the texture of "french cut" green beans, but I like regular or Italian ones just fine.
I'm also not a big fan of salads based on boring old iceberg lettuce. I prefer romaine or leaf lettuce, and/or spinach leaves. I also prefer my salads meaty and chunky...lots of tomato, cucumber, onion, olives, radishes, snap pea pods, carrot pieces, small broccoli florets, you name it.
A major part of lowcarbing is changing the way you eat and the way you look at food.

It's almost impossible to do low carb without vegetables.
It is impossible to do Atkins without vegetables.

Sorry to say, without vegetables, you haven't been doing Atkins. Without vegetables, you can't do Atkins.

I tend to eat just meat with sauces, lowcarb bread, muffins and sf jelly.
i like being in ketosis because i don't obsess about food,i used to stuff my self with biscuits, sweets etc all the time. when i tried ww or othet low fat diets,i was always hungry. I used to juice veg for my vitamin intake but nothing else,a bit sad really seeing as i'm nearly forty!

While what you're eating may be better than what you were eating, it's impossible to do Atkins without vegetables.
I will even go out on a limb and say it's impossible to do ANY low carb without vegetables.
You are not providing your body with good nutrition.
You're likely to get sick at some point.
This is Rule #2 of Induction:
2. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, at least 12 – 15 grams of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. (see Acceptable Foods).
It's pretty clear.

Unfortunately, that doesn't sound much like Atkins to me.
What kind of nutrition do you think you're getting from a diet of just meat with sauces (what kind of sauces?), lowcarb bread, muffins, and SF jelly?
Yikes.

What are your favorite foods? Do you like potatoes?
Tastes can change, but it takes work. There may be some baby steps that are easier than others.
Potatoes wouldn't be acceptable for someone just starting out.

There are some who believe that no veggies is ok. I personally don't subscribe to that theory. It's certainly not the way Dr. Atkins would advise you to go.
Here's what I would try. Find ways to fix your veggies where you "mask" them. If you have to dip them in ranch or cheese, then give it a try. Maybe you have never had veggies fixed in a way you'd actually like. There are many wonderful veggie recipes available on many lc sites and in lc cookbooks and I'm sure you'd eventually find a few you could deal with. Find those you can tolerate and eat them. That's better than nothing. I believe you'll find that eventually your taste buds will adjust and you'll actually start liking them. Just give yourself some time.

Well, I do suggest you try new ways to prepare your veggies and you may be surprised how well you like them. My husband swore that he hated them all. You could get him to eat corn and potatoes and that was about it. Then I started serving him roasted vegetables and eventually his tastes changed and he LOVES them.
Personally, I find steamed vegetables a bit boring. But I toss some broccoli or asparagus with some good extra virgin olive oil, salt (nice kosher salt is my preference) and freshly ground black pepper. Then I roast it in a hot oven (400 degrees F) for 10 or so minutes until still crisp, but tender. DELICIOUS. Sometimes I shave some parmesan cheese on the asparagus (or fennel, or red peppers or whatever I'm roasting) for an additional boost of goodness. My husband, the stubborn veggie hater, cannot get enough. Now we realize that the disgusting mushy vegetables we were served as kids did not instill in us a love of greens. How sad!
We also make a roasted vegetable spread that's lovely. Slice up 2 red, yellow or orange peppers, 1 medium onion, and 3-4 cloves of garlic. Toss with some olive oil (1T or so), salt and pepper. Roast until all are soft and starting to brown (softer than for veggies above), and then mix with a package of softened cream cheese for a delicious and colorful spread. I use it to dip veggies in, but my DH who is not eating low-carb uses it as a sandwich spread on whole wheat bread.
Anyway, I hope my suggestions help! Best of luck!
Cheers,
Susan M. (who is now at her office dreaming of some nice roasted asparagus...)
There are low carb plans that don't include any veggies - Try reading about paleo or neanderthin for some ideas.
Whether or not they're really healthy is debatable, of course.
But before you give up on Atkins completely (because as others have pointed out, if you're not eating veggies, you're not doing Atkins), try preparing your veggies differently. If you find you really don't like any of the traditional preparation methods giving the traditional textures (crisp-tender, crunchy, soft), perhaps you could toss cooked veggies in the blender and drink them, sort of like when you used to juice them - only this would include the entire veggie, fiber and all.

Hi Lily9601,
If it's the texture you hate have you ever tried them raw with a ranch type dip. The texture would definitely be different.

Don't be discouraged. I too would have to "mask" them in order to eat them, and am not scared into doing so just because someone says I wouldn't get good nutrition without them.

I know, but knowing of some favorite foods might hint at some possibilities.
I've fed pureed cauliflower with Thick'n'Thin NotStarch gravy to confirmed veggie-haters; they never even suspected.
The Hellers worked with someone who absolutely hated any and all veggies. After interviewing him for likes and disliked they actually came up--believe it or not--with a spicy creamed spinach recipe that he LOVED and ate every day!
One thing led to another....

I could live on just meat and eggs and often do for weeks at a time. I'll sometimes eat some wild rice but not that often any more. Atkins Induction is mostly meat and eggs. I eat just a few vegetables like fresh green beans and cabbage and onions and Brussels sprouts and cauliflower and broccoli but not to often here either. I like being really low carb too and it also keeps me from being hungry which I like a lot.

Ah... 2002 Atkins is mostly about the vegetables... 12-15 net carbs of the 20 net per day should come from vegetables.

It's not many vegetables the first week (salad) ("biologically zero carb") ... not forever. They did get added back in to one's eating.
However, if what YOU'RE doing is working and you're healthy... then... there you have it.

Atkins only added vegetables and such because he caved into the myth that they are essential for health.

I really hate vegetables too, but I have found that I can tolerate them when drenched in great tasting salad dressing, cheese, or the like. My vegetables usually consist of fast food side salads with 2 dressing packets, or the veggie steamers, which I ultimately cover with cheese or alfredo sauce. I also get in a few peppers and onions in fajitas or chili relanos. My sister "sneaks" veggies in just about everything that her children eat, she just mashes them in. She adds canned pumpkin to everything with a red sauce, and says it helps thicken and cuts the tartness of the tomatoes. She also buys a lot of baby food, and mixes sweet potatoes and pureed squash in thier easy mac bowls, and they never know. Just some thoughts.

That sounds reasonable. I know I could NEVER eat any veggie just by itself, raw.

Lot of sugar in those packets!
