Hey,

I am new to the LC life and was getting ready to place an order on netrition. I was wondering if any of you could direct me as to what flavored syrups you use the most and what kind of uses or recipes you use them for.

Thanks so much,

Marissa

I only use the french vanilla, vanilla, chocolate and caramel syrups. I ordered a bottle of peppermint last week (my husband loves peppermint hot chocolate) and if I like the taste I'll try to incorporate it into a few recipes.

Linda has a page dedicated to sugar free syrups on her recipe site:

Be sure to check out her recipes as well.

My absolute favorites are : German Chocolate Cake, Toasted Marshmallow, dulce de leche, hazelnut, pumpkin spice, butterscotch, coconut, and irish cream.
I also use peach, raspberry, and cherry to make my own version of peach, raspberry, and cherry tea, using green tea instead of the commercialized bottled teas using aspartame. It's pretty nummy, too!

My new favorite is the banana...oh my goodness...

Makes the best protein shake flavor like a banana split. Of course, I love raspberry, blueberry and cookie dough in a variety of things. smile.gif

I like to use the pineapple syrup in sweet and sour dishes and marinades such as these:

I also like to use coconut and banana syrups in these muffin recipes:

You can use just about any flavor you like in this Panna Cotta recipe:

I like it with French vanilla, caramel and peppermint (not all at once, LOL).

I was waiting on your answer Linda! wink.gif

Vanilla, caramel, Irish cream, toasted marshmallow (great in lc hot cocoa!), peppermint paddy (also good in lc hot cocoa), coconut, and their simple syrup is a great basic syrup to have on hand. Sweeten your iced tea with it if you don't want any flavor in your tea.

I LOVE these! So far loved every one I've tried except root beer .
The basics:
Chocolate, caramel, Vanilla , Almond , and coconut - I use these in almost everthing - almond syrup and cream is awesome in black cherry soda !
Peanut butter: for turning atkins shakes into snickers mochas
English Toffee: fantastic in vanilla or chocolate atkins shakes

Anyone tried the malibu rum and egg nog flavors?

LindaSue
I goofed. I don't actually use Da Vinci syrups in those muffin recipes, or at least not the banana ones. I do use coconut syrup to make the Angel Coconut that I use in the coconut muffins though.

I've also got a recipe for Appetizer Meatballs that uses grape syrup. The problem I have with the grape syrup is that I don't care for it in anything else so it's collecting dust in my pantry.

Thanks for the ideas. I just didn't know exactly how to incorporate them into my foods. I'm excited to try, though. I just read Jonny Bowden's book Living the Low Carb Life, and was so thrilled to see the info on yogurt and how 1 cup really only has 4 carbs. This morning I had 1/2 cup plain full fat yogurt, half cup of strawberries and used sweet n' lows french vanilla SF syrup. It was awesome!! I figure that the DaVinci have no carbs and might taste better.

I only recently added yogurt to my diet, too, Marissa! Never liked it when I was a sugar addict, but I wouldn't think of living without it now. biggrin.gif

I am going to add to if you have a Cost Plus World Market nearby they usually have a ton of flavors and they are cheaper than anywhere else I have seen them. Wow I was just looking for the link to thier store locator and you can buy from them online too.

They are just as cheap online as they are in the store.

When I have some extra money, I would like to get some. I will have to mail order them. I don't know what flavor I should get.
If I only get 2 what 2 flavors should I get?

The syrups they sell at World Market are Torani brand and they're very good. I just checked their website and they say "Available In Store Only". I love their coffee flavored syrup but the store near me doesn't carry that flavor any more.

I haven't placed my order yet, but yesterday I was at Walmart and they have two flavors of SF Da Vinci syrup. I bought the vanilla and used it in my plain yogurt today instead of the Sweet n' Low SF vanilla...it was AWESOME!!! I put some in my coffee instead of splenda, great as well. I sold and I'm placing my order today for several other flavors.

Thanks for the yogurt idea, Ritmeyer ! I'm going to have to get started with my yogurt maker and strainer. I found out that draining it not only makes it thicker and richer, but it also drops the carb count.

Thanks for the yogurt idea, Ritmeyer ! I'm going to have to get started with my yogurt maker and strainer. I found out that draining it not only makes it thicker and richer, but it also drops the carb count.

Do you know by how much? Are there carbs in the whey more than in the solids?

Another idea: I usually stir in a little cream when I have yogurt to help drop the carb count.

Here's the article about the carbs in yogurt and about draining it :

The Yogurt Exception

For me personally, I found this to be true. When I was out of induction I ate yogurt every single day and continued to lose weight.

I read Jonny Bowden's book, Living the Low Carb Life, and he stated that because of the live cultures in yogurt the carb and sugar counts are incorrect. He said the there are 4 carbs in 1 cup of full fat plain yogurt. I believe Dr. Eads said this as well (I think that is where Jonny found it out) and I know Jimmy put this info on his blog awhile back. I was thrilled when I found this out and since I started it has not stalled my weight loss one bit!

Edit: Oops, I didn't read your link about the same info I just gave.

TazChick, I've used the egg nog flavor several times. It makes an awesome eggnog cheesecake and I also use it to make egg nog during Christmas. smile.gif

My favorites are chocolate, banana, cherry, vanilla, french vanilla, carmel and rasberry. I have a huge bottle of strawberry I've never opened, so I can't say if I like it yet or not.

I love adding a little cherry to my diet rite for a "cherry coke".

I've bought the Torini at World Market and really like them as well. I think the price is a little better than DaVinci online prices. Of course that doesn't help if you don't have a World Market near you. I need to go by Trader Joe's and see what they have.. I haven't been there in ages and I can't remember if they carry syrups or not.

My Walmart caries sf Davincis vanilla, raspberry, hazelnut, and caramel. I use the caramel in my 1 minute muffins.
TazChick
Thanks Sparkysgirl! as soon as I get myself going this evening, I'm heading out to buy the Malibu Rum, Pineapple, and passionfruit flavors to make my own versions of those high-carb and EXPENSIVE bar drinks I saw on the cruise ship - one guy on the last day had incurred a $1000 bar tab over a five day cruise!
