How do you guys handle going to others' houses for dinner?

Thursday night I have been invited to dinner at someone's house, whom I don't yet know very well. She is making spaghetti with meat sauce. I really do not want to eat any of the spaghetti. The last time I had pasta it set off an intense, and long-lasting, binge.

I think someone on here mentioned recently that exercise helps keep her in ketosis, so I'm thinking of doing my strength training video (Firm Cardiosculpt) a few hours beforehand and maybe going for a half-hour jog, to counterbalance the forthcoming carbs... and then, I figure I will have a larger portion of the meat-sauce and just eyeball a "small" portion of the pasta. I know the meat sauce has hidden carbs in it too, but at least I'll be getting some fat and protein in there too. And of course I won't be eating dessert.

I am also going out to the movies with some friends later on, and I don't want to be sitting through the whole moving, thinking, "MUST! HAVE! SUGAR!" as a result of the carbs that will have entered my system at dinner time. Been there, done that, NOT FUN!

So.. ideas anyone? Please!????????

(BTW I also posted this question at lowcarbfriends.com; I normally don't do "double posts" like this, but I'm feeling kind of desperate right now and would appreciate suggestions from everyone!!!!!) Thanks smile.gif

Don't eat the pasta and offer to bring your own dish. People who invite Christine and me over for dinner now ask US ahead of time what we want to eat for our low-carb lifestyle. They'll respect you for sticking with your diet plan. Of course, they could get some Dreamfields pasta and make spaghetti that you CAN eat. It's worth a shot.

Then don't eat the pasta. Be honest with them. You can eat the toppings... though I would also be suspicious that the sauce had sugar and the meatballs had breadcrumbs.

If you feel you can't eat ANYTHING with them, then eat before hand. Go for the company.

As to the movies... take some cheese. Even some nuts would be a better choice than candy/popcorn.

Remember that you're in charge of what you eat.

Most people are proud of their sauce. We went to a friend of a friend's spaghetti dinner ... special sauce with Moose or some other strange meat (we were visiting friends in Alaska). Anyway, I picked up a spaghetti squash on the way over and cooked it in their microwave. The hosts tried the squash and loved it. They are still using the squash to this day.

Don't eat the spagetti!!! Bring something easy to cook (hamburger patty to fry & some cheese or pork chop.) I'm sure she is having a salad so that would be good.
For the movie, I usually take a half of a low carb protein bar, chop it into tiny pieces, mix with a handfull of almonds and much away with every one else.
No excuses. To the hostess "This looks wonderful but I can't eat it. I brought somthing to eat if I can borrow a pan." She will smile, get you the pan and all will be fine except for all those people coveting your chop/steak/burger. tongue.gif
