Wow! I lost 65 pounds on KK, and then took a few months off to enjoy the fruit of summer. I really enjoyed it, but am now SO carbed up, and up 30 pounds, too. My doctors have been changing my meds around, and I let a "healthy carb" allowance wander into total junk food. I kept telling myself that once my meds are balanced, I can quickly relose the weight with KK. Now, I'm really seeing what's been happening while my heads been in the sand. I thought I had kept my weight under 200, but I'm back at 215 (was down to 185, from a high of 250 when I started KK). I logged into Kimkins today to restart, and saw most of the post-its were gone. Dug deeper, and am now ditching KK for this site.

I have to admit, I'm totally scared. I thought I could get the weight back off quickly with KK, and now have to relearn low-carb. I've decided to start plugging in some tentative menus into my PC Fitday, and see if I can figure out a revised eating plan for myself. I definitely like how I felt on KK, but did have some worrisome side-effects, too. I'm glad I quit when I did, but wish I had stuck to the "no junk". Well, I can't change the past, but I can do low-carb without the drastic low calorie/low fat challenges. No more "egg white challenges" for me!

I know this is going to take some time to figure out. I am really scared about not being able to lose without the KK. But, in my heart, I know I'm doing the right thing. I had my last "refined sugar binge" earlier, and now I'm going to make a fresh start.....

Starting weight 215....goal 150.....plan undecided.

You can do this. I emailed you the menus. They are great and very helpful. You may read in another thread that I am not low carbing at the moment but don't let that detract from those menus as I used them and they were good. I am doing the "kimmer". Giving diet advise but not following the plan. lol. As for knowing what plan to choose start reading. I have several books that I am reading at the moment for my next phase of weightloss. They are all low carb as that is ultimately what works for me. I had a very expensive trip to 1/2 price books.

Take care.

Roni,

Glad you are jumping back in. Commit and stick to it. I know easier said than done. But the bouncing in and out is yo-yoing and going to mess up your metabolism. You won't lose as quickly if you keep it up. Don't get depressed about regaining the 30#s. Choose a plan and stick to it. I find the zero carb is the easiest for me. The lower the carbs the better the appetite control. I'm usually around 6 carbs per day. Got to have my coffee.

I read last week in a thread somewhere that your diet for optimum weight loss should be: 10-15% carbs, 20-25% protein, & 60-70% fat. I can't tell you how it's going to work out yet because I just started staying in those ranges since the end of this past week, except for the carbs, which is lower. I have a tendency to go over on the protein. To figure out your protein take your weight in pounds and divide by 2.2 to get your kgs. Multiply that by 1 and then again by 1.5 to get your range. Mine is 92 - 137 gms of protein/day.

Hope I made sense and that I didn't come across as harsh. Best of luck! Choose the plan that works for you. I'm just telling you what works for me.

Raewyn,

I read where you told us that you were off low carb for now. Great idea to exercise. Please, keep coming back and posting. Your input is valuable. No way are you like Kimmer.

RONI!!!!

So good to see you here. I'm sorry that you've had such a hard time, but I am more convinced than ever that LC is a fantastic means of weight loss. I'm very proud of you for not going back to that other way. Even though it is quick... it is VERY difficult to keep off afterwards. It has taken me a very long time to learn to eat correctly, and I'm still struggling with it. Hang in there, and you can get the weight off. It is possible, and you will be much happier and healthier by following a proven and medically documented LC plan.

Take care, and it is so good to see you again!

One thing I've found about low carbing is that it really does have to be a life long change in the way you eat and think. I know that's true of all diets, but it does seem like the weigh can just pour back on when you go off low carb. I've had it happen many times, but am still giving low carb another chance. One thing I'm doing different this time is trying to find more recipes I really enjoy eating. I also think it's very important that you convince yourself that eating fat is safe as long as your carbs are low. Reading Dr Eades books, Gary Taubes good Calories Bad Calories, Sugar Shock, The Brain Trust and anything else I can get my hands on is slowing convincing me that simple carbs and sugars will have to be eleminated forever if I am to maintain my weight loss. Start by adding more fats and don't be afraid of butter, olive oil, macnut oil, whole eggs or fatty meats. You may still need to watch your calories, but try for at least 1200 daily.

Hi Roni! smile.gif Glad to see you here...
I'm also struggling with the issue of I've regained a little bit, and always thought.. "well, if I gain, I know how to lose it quick!".. and now it's like.. "Uhoh.. what do I do now??" I don't have any real answers for ya here.. but I can tell you that you're not alone.

But I am very happy to see that you were able to "dig deeper" inside of Kimkins and find out the truth of what's going on! I've been really worried about everyone still involved with Kimkins, and people like you who "disappeared" for awhile. It's comforting for me to see that you were able to discover the truth and find your way here! smile.gif

Hope to see you around some more! smile.gif

I'm still here. I caved in to the carb monster, but I'm back at Day 2 again. I know I can get through the carb withdrawals and get back into losing again. Right now I'm at 213.4, and still hope to be close to 200 when we leave on our vacation. I guess I'm doing "Atkins" right now, because I'm mostly eating eggs and meat, with my carbs coming from salad. Today I had 2 pickles, so I'll have to limit the salad tonight.

The salad is helping with the BM problems, but I'm still struggling a bit in that area, too. I know I was WAY too dependent on MoM on the other plan, and I'm trying to get myself regular more naturally.

I'm eating some pork roast right now, and then I'm picking my son up from a potluck lunch. I didn't trust myself to make good choices, so I stayed away myself.

Thanks EVERYONE for your encouragement.

roni, i just wanted to welcome you. you will find lots of support and advice here to help you transition from kimkins. i am in the process of doing the same, so i completely and totally understand your fears. it's sometimes overwhelming.

however, it's for your overall health and that's the bottom line! what we were doing was NOT healthy. here we can learn to do it right.

good luck...you will find lots of familiar faces and friendly smiles on jimmy's site. it easily becomes home.

Roni, when are you leaving on vacation? My goal was to be at 185 when we went on vacation. It's not going to happen but I hope to be closer. I am happy with my loss so far . . . . slow and steady.

I remember seeing some of your posts on KK. I was only there for 4-5 weeks before coming here. This forum is the best!

Thanks, everyone! I'm leaving early (4am) on Sat, Nov 10th. I blew it a few days ago, but I'm back on lc, and today is Day 3 (again). I hope to be in ketosis by tomorrow night, but sometimes it takes me 5 days to really get there.

My scale is not dropping much at all, especially considering how carbed-up I was. I'm at 214, so realistically, I hope to be at 205 by the time we leave. I'm not stressing over it. I do hope to get back into a few pairs of pants, so I don't have to go shopping BEFORE the trip. Right now, only my knit pants with elastic waists still fit, and all my "fat" clothes were given away as soon as they were too big. I was able to get my jeans zipped up yesterday, but still can't sit in them. They are the main pair I want to take.... we'll see.

Today I started with 2 eggs w/pinch of cheese. I have 2 small salmon fillets pre-cooked for today, and will have chicken for dinner. Should be fine if I keep to my prepped foods!

Just a quick update...I knew the scale would drop... I started losing water weight after I weighed this morning. After several stops, I'm down to 212.8...that's progress. Because I was completely off plan for a long time, I think I am going to making a lot of pit stops for a few days while I lose the water weight. Then the hard work will begin! I've gained several inches through the hips and waist, and need to drop them to get back into my clothes. So, no blowing it this time! NO EXCUSES!

I know I can make it over the big hurdle and into ketosis this time...my mind and heart are in the right place and I'm comfortable with my decision. I still that voice in my mind telling me to have sugar, and I can start over tomorrow...but the voice is getting quieter, and I'm not listening....
