Last week I went to a baby shower and had some chicken parmigan and frosting off a piece of cake which through me out of ketosis. This week I decided that I wasn't going to stress about writing down my calories, protein or fat and just keep general track of my carbs. I know the carb values of everything I eat and my carbs fell into the 20 to 25 range. The thing is I haven't been able to get back into ketosis. My ketostix don't register anything and it's been 6 days. In the past I could always get some kind of reading from the ketostix. It ussually doesn't take me more than three days to get into ketosis.

Do you think I need to go back to writing everything down? I really don't want to do that. I really wanted the freedom just to enjoy my food without the hassle.

For me exercise, exercise & more exercise always gets me back in ketosis

Karrie, I gained a 1.5 pounds since I last weighed myself a week and a half ago.

pattim, I was seriously exercising before but I lost my enthusiasm after reading the Gary Taubes article about exercise. Now I'm rethinking exercise and plan to get back on the wagon.

The sticks have never registered for me. I go by lack of hunger, my breath, etc.

Pattim, that is interesting about the exercise!!! I've been trying to get myself motivated to start exercise again, and this morning I actually did my "Firm Cardiosculpt" video for the first time in weeks-- it combines strength training (about 2/3 of it is strength) and some cardio (about 1/3 of it is cardio).. and it felt great!! But I am glad, you've given me more motivation to continue with it. smile.gif What sorts of exercise do you do?

And yeah, I'm sure Taubes is right that exercise builds an appetite, but I think as long as you still keep your carbs under control, you should be fine.. And has he even said himself, exercise has SO many other benefits, regardless of whether it helps with weight loss.

Exercise did it. After two consecutive days working out my ketostix turned pink.
