skinnypanda
Hello all, I'm an ex-kimkins KE dieter and I've only been doing DANDR for a week. I LOOOOVE this diet after eating next to nothing but I wanted some advice about new things to add to my diet. I've been getting my carbs from lettuce, cucumbers, nuts, celery, and a little tomatoe sauce but what are other Atkins friendly veggies? I read the book but could only find a small list sad.gif

I'm trying to get my carbs around 30 gms because I'm in phase 2, working toward phase 3. What are some things that you all enjoy?

INDUCTION VEGGIES (1st two weeks)
Lettuce Mache Celery
Romaine Bok Choy Jicama
Escarole Chives Posse Pied
Arugula Parsley Alfalfa Sprouts
Endive Cucumber Mushrooms
Radicchio Radishes Morels
Chicory Fennel Olives
Sorrel Peppers

Asparagus Scallions Snow Pea Pods
String Beans Leeks Sauerkraut
Cabbage Spinach Collard Greens
Beet Greens Summer Squash Dandelion Greens
Cauliflower Zucchini Chard
Okra Broccoli Spaghetti Squash
Kale Turnips Celery Root
Kohlrabi Avocado Brussel Sprouts
Tomato Bamboo Shoots Artichoke Hearts
Onion Bean Sprouts Hearts of Palm
Rhubarb Water Chestnuts

In the very back of DANDR, it lists more vegetables you can have after Induction and what their carb counts are. Obviously the higher carb ones, like Carrots and Corn you have to work into how many carbs your body can tolerate and still lose weight.

Good luck!
Taoschick
Corn is something I will never eat again.

I put it right up there with potatoes, white flour, rice and sugar.

Asparagus, broccoli and Brussels sprouts....those I can live with.

There's 54 vegetables on the Induction food list!

What edition of DANDR had a "small list"?

If you're not doing induction, then the only veggies you really need to avoid are potatoes and corn. Some have more carbs then others like onion and tomato, so just don't go overboard on those.

Hi Skinnypanda! You go!

Make sure to read the book, okay? Knowing how and why this WOE is so healthy for you and so good for your life is a key to long-term success.

Note that nuts are not permitted for Induction. (And nuts are not good foods for the initial post-induction WOE either.)

Valerie, If you don't mind , I've been wondering what the heck
your avatar is. Everytime I see it, I think of 'Strawberrie's'!!
That's not a good thing for me to be thinking about while I'm
I'm on induction !lol ph34r.gif

My avatar is roast duckling! It's my new favorite poultry--an excellent, high-fat meat and a very good choice for Atkins.

Last night I went out to eat with my husband. Roast duckling. Hold the potato. I'll have the French onion soup without the bread. Butter on the side for the veggies. YUM!!!

This morning, I used my leftover duck and my leftover veggies (two pieces of broccoli, a piece of cauliflower, and a little piece of carrot) with some Romano cheese to make a 3-egg omelet which I split with my husband.

Definitely delicious!

I think I'm going to roast a whole goose this week, since duck has proved to be so appealing! (I had wild goose about 5 years ago; that's the only time I've ever had it.)

Thanks for everyone's help. I got the book and re-read it (I had tried speed reading it over a weekend and missed a lot) and finally understand. Valerie, that duck and soup sounds delicious! I didn't realize you can get the french onion soup without bread...hmmmmmm...

I've settled on a non-induction diet but without any fruit until I start losing again. I've only gained 2-3 lbs after transitioning from kk so I'm happy with that. Thanks again everyone!

Skinnypanda, 2-3# is great. A small gain is really common; when you start to nourish your body, it will want to rebuild its protein stores (muscle) and strengthen its structure (strong bones are a bit heavier).
