Low-carb is what it is...take it or leave it. Sadly, most people leave it because of the hyperbolism that surrounds it from those who are supposedly the "experts" in the field of diet and health.
That's one reason why we must NEVER stop shouting it from the rooftops about our success. People are listening and paying attention to us, but we still have a long way to go.
Tom, that was probably the biggest reason why I decided to move on with my life and I'm so happy to be sharing it with you here now in this forum.

I think that the best advertising for lowcarbing is US..keeping our weight off, looking healthy, and having good doctor reports.
I know some ladies in our church who have done other plans..but NOTHING
works like LCing!! They have gained their weight back and just can't stick
with their diets..too hard.

I have had people literally jumping up and down, excited about my weight loss, for a moment catching a glimpse of healing themselves. They ask "oh my gosh, how did you do it?!" Then I say Low-Carb, and their faces fall, and they say "oh"
It saddens me, too, because it could change their lives permanently. Instead of saying "Oh, I want that too!", they start with the negative statements, and I just have to shut them off. It doesn't matter to them that I say my triglycerides were almost six hundred, and now they are ninety. It doesn't matter to them that my doctor says I have halted several disease processes that were ALREADY started in my body before low carb, including pre-heart disease, pre-diabetes, etc. My doctor said, and I quote "You have cured yourself of everything that was wrong with you!"
I know in my heart, though, that more and more people will come around and finally start listening to the scientific proof that low carb works. It will just take us time. However, we MUST make ourselves continue to be heard. Continuing to lose, maintaining our losses, showing just how healthy we are....THIS is what people will finally hear.

Jimmy,
I couldn't agree more!
Dr. Atkins talks extensively in his books about forum patients of his that had success, then went off the diet because someone convinced them it was unhealthy.
It seems to me this situation is just as prevalent today.
The only way we can change things is a grass roots campaign. This forum and your blog are perfect examples.
That's why I started another Aussie Forum. The message needs to be pushed down under as well!

Dr. Barry Groves said in
his interview with me today that it's gonna take a grassroots uprising from those of us who have made livin' la vida low-carb our lifestyle change. I'm willing to do my part to get this revolution started.

Jimmy you did the right thing! Low carb done the correct way as Dr Atkins promoted works wonders... no need to starve yourself with starvation level calories. We have induction, owl, and maintence. And with the other low carb diets out there and there are many, look for medical advice from the authors, read the reviews, google it. If it sounds to good to be true it may be. Thanks for opening up this forum!! livin' la vida low-carb

Cartbabe, You are so right. I have lost 75 pounds and if I tell people low carb, I get funny looks and the same old line about it being dangerous; however, if I say, I just focus on eating protein and veggies, people tell me how healthy that is and ask how I started! I have a few friends that have started just leaving out the white stuff and now they feel better and have more energy. I hope that in a few months they ask how they can further improve their WOE and their weight loss. Words have such power and unfortunately the phrase low carb has been demolished. Sad, but true. Here's to living vibrant healthy lives thanks to low carb.

Yeah, I've had the same experiences, though I've noticed that rather than the lines about it being dangerous, I more often get people telling me "Oh, I could never do that, I couldn't live without (insert carby food here). I'll still tell people I'm on Atkins or low carb. It is what it is. :-)

Same here. I lost 75 pounds, never felt healthier or happier and yet, some around me, who are taking drugs for their chlorestoral and moaning about heart & diabetes tell me how afraid they are to do low carb. Makes no sense to me at all. I say, but it's just eating real food - meat, veggies and fruit. I don't get how that is worse than all he sugar and flour. One relative said that too much meat causes cancer. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

Yeah, I hear that one too, Nikki. What I say to people (and it is usually accepted in good spirit) is this: "I have a choice. I can choose to weigh 253 pounds and eat all the carbs I want, OR I can choose to be small, and not eat carbs. It is a personal choice with which I am totally satisfied and happy".
In this way it makes people think "hmm, it is actually all up to me. I have to decide what I want".
On a positive note, I have to say that there have been at least ten people who have started the low carb lifestyle because they wanted what I have. At least five have succeeded and are living the lifestyle successfully and happily. A few of them have been able to stop their diabetic meds and insulins under the care of a doctor. So, there are some positive notes. I have always heard that if we can affect at least one person in a positive way, we have really accomplished something.

That's what ticked me off when people were urging me to distance myself from the term "low-carb" last year so I wouldn't "offend" anyone. This
stealth low-carb strategy just doesn't sit well with me because I lost on the Atkins LOW-CARB diet!
Plus, maybe they NEED to be offended and shaken some sense into them! I sure wish somebody had done that for me a long time ago. Maybe I wouldn't have suffered as a morbidly obese man for so long.
I say it loud and I say it proud--I'M LIVIN' LA VIDA LOW-CARB, BABY!

Oh my gosh, Jimmy. I don't know if you caught the Today Show in December...........but everybody was all gungho and going on and on about my weight loss..........until the moment I was asked how I did it. ROFL, you could have heard a pin drop in the studio when I said low-carb. The next question that was asked to me was "But, you DO eat healthy, right?!"
A lot of low-carbers were offended by that, but, I just smiled and went on. It's okay. There were thousands of people who must have been encouraged at that moment that perhaps they could overcome their weight problems of a life time. We can only hope.
