Hi,
I havent posted in awhile. I joined this board awhile ago, and so far ive lost 30 pounds with Weight Watchers. Ive always known I was a carb addict though. Lately ive been binging more and more on WW, and can't seem to "do it" anymore. Ive been craving real meat, real food etc...
I however have this fear that lowcarb and eating fat will harm me. I need to get over this mental block. I ordered barry groves new book and read the whole thing in 2 days. It all makes sense to me! I still think that i'll get heart disease, cancer, or some other deadly disease if I don't eat my fruit, whole grains etc...everything the media, food companies tell us we should be eating. I have a good 50 more pounds to lose. I went to Costco this weekend and spent over $100 on low carb foods, meats, vegies, cheeses etc.. so im all set to go. I had my last binge last night of Halloween candy and felt like crap all night long. I must say I do feel "physically" better when I eat low carb. I have more energy, no mood swings!!!, less depression, anxiety etc...
Im thinking that if I feel better this way, doesnt it make sense that it can only be better for my insides??!!
Ive used butter today and im having burgers and lots of cheese, low carb vegies. I keep telling myself..."Lord this is either going to kill me or save me!"
Just need some encouragement and hand holding and I have to do this!!! It's the only way I don't go crazy with cravings, looking at the clock waiting for my next meal, and obsessing over food!

Hey Carolyn, the mental fight that we have to come to grips with over fat consumption is difficult and you are not alone. Many people here on this forum are dealing or have dealt with this same issue. But It MUST be done.
Hear me out on this: As long as carbs are limited, fat is HEALTHY for you. I've been eating a diet consisting of nearly 70% fat for the past four years and I'm as healthy and lean as I've ever been in my entire life dropping about half my body weight and completely eliminating all three prescription drugs I was on for blood pressure, cholesterol, and breathing.
YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Just dive right in and DO IT! Read the
new Gary Taubes book, too, because it will give you the scientific evidence that backs this claim up.

thanks Jimmy,
How much is too much vegies per day? Ive eaten about 2 zucchinis, some tomato slices and about 2 cups worth of broccoli made into a casserole with sour cream, mayo and cheese, other than that, ive had one turkey burger, one hot link, and 2 eggs, plus tons of water

Count the carbs and make sure they add up to less than 20g total when you first begin low-carb, Carolyn. Your veggie intake is already better than most people who low-carb for the first time.

Luckily I love vegies and will eat just about any! The zucchinis were fresh out of my garden. I grated them, mixed them with 2 eggs, parm cheese and some garlic and them fried them like pancakes in my cast iron pan with butter. Yum!

Hi erialicia,
The advise given by WW and given here are about 180 degrees. There is no real evidence to back up the contention that fat is bad for you. Quite the opposite. It's a bandwagon that the media got on board with 20 years ago, but it hasn't panned out. People have been eating low carb for the last 150 years and losing weight doing it. It's only been relatively recently that we've had the health problems with heart, cancer, and diabetes and those problems came on the heals of increased sugar consumption followed by the advent of transfats. All foods WW caters to and promotes.
If you want to look at diet safety then look at old populations which have eaten their given diets safely for thousands of years. Amongst these populations you will find very little heart disease, cancer or obesity. Sorry to say that is not the case today.
If it were me I'd be afraid "not" to get off weight watchers. Your body is definitely telling you something, lister to it. Hope this helps and best to you.

I saw the title of your post and just wanted to drop in and add my support too.
From what I've observed so many people have to battle "fears" when it comes to dieting (or finding a new way of eating). What if it doesn't work? What if I can't stay on it? What if...? It is so odd that our biggest obstacle is "ourselves"! hahaha It isn't always just about the food.
As I lost the first 75 pounds it was as if layer after layer was being shed. AND with every layer came another fear or obstacle to deal with. You said that you had already lost 30 pounds... HOORAY!!!! Now you are ready to do a little shifting and tackle the next 50 pounds ... HOORAY!! That means that you have not given up and you are still in the fight! THAT is success. THAT is the winning hand. THAT is the key.
You are willing to do battle.

I guess that's about all I have to say.... I hope you are encouraged today and I hope that we can all help each other be the BEST that we can be!
Hugs!

Thanks Melodie,
My sister is on Nutrisystem and I was looking at the ingrediants of some of the foods...They are about a paragraph long mind you, and included in many of the items is hydrogynated oils! Im thinking "How can this be healthy"?? Then she measures out one TEASPOON of olive oil per day for her fat allotment. No wonder we were both starving and desperate on those plans AND only losing under one pound per week if that, sometimes i'd actually gain, and wonder how can that be when im eating under 1000 calories per day?
Well im starting my second day of low carb and im enjoying coffee with cream, and it feels great!
