Full Version: I think I'm leaning more towards this

Everytime I seem to start adding in the veggies etc. I will slow, stall and then gain.

The 1st month I did kk, I was doing K/E and lost close to 30lbs, the the 2nd month, I started slowly adding in veggies. Then by the 3rd month, I was eating close to 20 total carbs per day and had completely stalled after a total loss of around 40lbs.

I found my way here, struggled to add fats and increase my calories. I did it, but it was hard. Then I started reading about the veggies. How important they were. Someone even said you had to have 15-20 net carbs of veggies per day. I started adding veggies. After the first veggie day, wow, 2.5lb loss. The next day, 1lb. Then a stall, then a gain. I think it was the veggies/carbs. Not sure though since it was for such a short time. Either way, I had to think and remind myself to eat them.

I am very happy though with a hunk of meat and a diet coke or water for each and every meal. Throw in a few eggs or some seafood here and there and I am content.

I think I'll give this a try and see how the weight loss does. I know I could eat like this without any problems at all.

Any tips, suggestions etc. are welcomed! smile.gif

Well I'm starting to wonder about the whole calories thing and how important it is to monitor calories.

But give zero carb a try for two weeks and see how you do.

You have to have veggies??? Pfffhh!
Hilary244
Can you have cheese or sour cream? Or just meat and eggs? I'm just following Boo around..

BTW - love the new avatar, Dave.

Hilary go read the 1st pinned post. Dave tells what he considers 0 carb. He eats cheese just certain kinds etc. Basically 5 carbs per day or less. Total, not net. Right Dave?
Hilary244
I did read it, I just like perameters. I like lists and rules. Not that I always follow them...I just like to know they are there.
OceanBlue
As far as cheese goes Dave said that Bree/Havarti etc. are good. Basically the guidelines for cheese are "cheese that has less than 1 grams of carbs per 100 grams".

In the thread for carb withdrawal (I think) he addresses some of this stuff.

A list of the cheeses etc. would be nice to have on hand.

Since fat is a good thing, I assume that full fat cream in coffee is ok?

My sourcream has 1g per 2tlbsp so that would be cool too as long as I stay under the 5 right?

Thinking about it, my problem with the 5 per day might lie in the condiments.

Dave?

This is not for me...I just saw your question as was curious. This is part of the reason that I didn't want it hang out in the Atkins forum because i didn't like to HAVE TO get at least 20 carbs...some days all I want is meat and fat and some days I do want salad. So, it is nice to know that there are those who don't believe that you have to have 20 carbs.

You may not like zero carb then,

because we are not into rules! laugh.gif

Rules are to have carbs as close to zero as possible.

Eat most of teh calories from fat. Eat enough protein for your body.

Like Atkins Induction sans the veggies.

Hi Everyone... I have really enjoyed reading about no carb eating. It seems like that is the only thing that works for me. I got back from San Fransisco about a week ago and gained ten pounds eating bread.... 10 POUNDS. I have since lost 5 eating the no carb way and I feel GREAT!!

I do think you need to watch calories though.. it just isn't a free for all. I listen to my body to tell me when I am done and eat SLOW. Enjoy every FULL FAT BEEFY BITE!! YUM!!!

Thanks Dave for starting this thread.

Hey Norma! Welcome to my forum and let me know if I can help you in any way have a great experience here. Take care! biggrin.gif

Thanks Jimmy... I can't believe your transformation!! Great Job!! You are an inspiration to all! I totally agree with low carbing.. it is the only way to go. It's just a little hard getting through induction. I LOVE CHOCOLATE!! But I love losing weight more... I love losing weight more. Oh, did I just say that. It takes a lot of self talk.... talking myself out of bread, pasta, couscous and MILK CHOCOLATE!! I am sure we all have our down falls!

Thanks!!

I lost my weight on Atkins but since this is a lifetime deal for me, not a DIET, I've been a bit flexible since induction. I did a clean, by the book induction for two weeks and from that point on I based what I ate on how my body responds to specific foods.

I do not eat veggies every single day. Some days, it's just eggs, meat and cheese with a low carb tortilla thrown in. I have found if I don't eat enough fat, I get tired and sluggish. Adding fats was my biggest challenge. I used to drink coffee black but I started adding heavy cream just to get in more fat per day. You've got to tailor your program for what works best for you.

It is best for me to just stay away from chocolate. I started eating chocolate a couple of months ago thinking I would just eat a little here and a little there. It sent me on a downward spriral, eating bag fulls of M&Ms (not the little bag) at a time. It is best for me to stay away!!

I did get some great brie cheese yesterday. I was just eating from a spoon and my DH was putting it on crackers. He said "why don't you put it on a carrot or something?" and I said "why would I do that a ruin it?" He still doesn't get the whole low card thing yet. I love this way of eating.... who needs veggies? Not me!! biggrin.gif

Okay Im feeling stupid....where do I find this 1st pinned post?

I am curious about this zero carb thing as I am having a hard time choking down veggies lately unless they are covered in blue cheese dressing which cant be a good thing can it? I have lost only 1 lb since sept 6th aka leaving kimkins. I was hoping for at least another 10 by my thanksgiving cruise. Boo I feel frustrated as well. The only plus is Im not hungry.....just bored.

What is the approximate weekly weight loss this way vrs a normal low carb including vegitables,

What is the approximate weekly weight loss this way vrs a normal low carb including vegitables,

Pattim65:

That's really going to vary among people. There are many factors that influence weight loss, besides what we eat. Your hormones and metabolism play a big part. However, I think zero carb may help someone find their equilibrium a bit faster than low carb, because you get down to the basics of burning fat for fuel without anything else getting in the way. If you are having trouble once you are fully fat-adapted, then you have to look at things such as fat intake, stress, thyroid, insulin resistance, menopause, pregnancy, depression, famine, poverty, you name it. They all influence whether or not one burns fat or stores it.

Charles

Charles you forgot to add a partridge in a pear tree. I was just trying to figure an average to compare to regular low carb. Like a normal person with no problems usually loses 2-4 pounds per week on low carb and a zero carb person with no problem usually loses 4-6 or something like that. I know that everyone is different I am just trying to evaluate whether or not this would be a better approach for me or maybe something to do as a stall buster.

Well, you see that's what everyone is so frustrated about. People want to see such studies performed but no one seems to be doing it, probably because of the complexities. In Taubes' book, which is at home, I'm out of town, they have comparative studies where they varied the carb count, calorie count and macronutrient intake yet found very different ranges. They all lost weight, but it really varied like 36 pounds for one person, and 3 pounds for another, despite eating the exact same foods under the same conditions.

Zero carb is not so different than low carb when the carbs are kept below 20 grams. If I was trying to break a stall on low carb, I would shorten my menu to something like this: 3 eggs and two sausage patties for breakfast, a 1/2 pound burger for lunch, with green leaf lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard. For dinner, either chicken thighs, ribeye steak, flouder or trout, with or without some grilled vegetables. On Zero Carb, I would simply drop the vegetables and condiments. I would eat this same menu for about three days and see what happens. If I started to lose, then I would slowly change the variety, like changing up one meal for three days, and then check the scale and my cravings to see whether the new food stays or goes.

I would not skip a meal, regardless of how I felt. If I was not hungry, I would exercise to create some hunger, most definitely weight lifting to get my metabolism going.

Don't change things too fast or you won't know which factor made a difference or not. If after the first three days, things didn't change, I would eat this way as long as I could until something did change, because it's completely healthy and I couldn't go wrong.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Charles

Thank you Charles good advise. I am on a more lenient carbs program and it is working for me, so I will probably just stick to what I am doing. I cut out the veggies and fruit when I am stalling or switch to tuna and grapefruit and that usually breaks it. If it were extra fast I would probably try it but I like my fruit too much. I really missed it on KK.

Well, it seems to be working. I'm losing again.

I'm doing the Biggest Loser Challenge so we weigh in on Mondays. This week I'm down 3lbs.

I got a basic menu down now so I'll see how it goes again next week.

Thanks Charles and Dave.
Charles
Congrats!!!!! Keep it up.
