OK, I'm not in a *true* transition from KK to Atkins, because I simply abandoned KK back in early August because I knew I needed to get my calories and fats back up. Unfortunately, some of that came in the form of ice cream.

After several weeks of floundering around with no plan at all, I spent a couple of weeks doing Weight Watchers Core plan. I thought I would be able to keep it in the realm of an LC plan but just add in some fruit here and there, but before I knew it I was pushing the boundaries of even the flex points allowed on Core. And I was still slowly gaining.
So this last week I went back to Atkins. Not a true Induction menu because I've been eating more than a half cup of non-induction veggies most days, but still keeping my carbs at 20 or below. And I dropped 2.5 lbs by Saturday.
But in the last couple of days, I've just felt the need to eat huge meals, and I've had 2100 to 2700 calories per day with fat percentages of 65-70%. I had about a half pound gain this morning, which I would expect from the sheer weight of the food I ate yesterday. But it's a little scary to be putting away this many calories.
Is anyone else finding the need/desire to eat this much on Atkins or any other lc program? How long should I let it run its course before trying to get it in check?

Your loss for this week will be around 2 lbs which is a very healthy weight loss rate especially for someone who has been dieting for sometime. Are you asking the question because you feel it's not going fast enough?
If you eat until statisfied but not stuffed AND losing weight I wouldn't worry too much about calories BUT my rule of thumb to lose is to limit my calories to a maximum of 10x my weight in pounds (194x10 = 1940 calories). I also make sure to never go below 1200 calories per day even when I am not hungry (ketosis does wonders for me in that respect).
Are you hungry for all that or are you eating out of habit/boredom/emotions etc? Sometimes we lose sight of satiety is and feels like.
You have lost quite a bit of weight so I am sure you are doing great. Congratulations.

Oh no! I was asking because the heavy calorie days started *after* I logged my 2-lb loss. I had been eating around 1400-1600 calories up to that point. And so far this is not an issue of grazing much between meals. I just ate some very heavy meals because I just didn't feel like I was filling up. And both days included at least 4-5 vegetable servings.

I say keep doing what you are doing! When I first started LC, I was eating 4-5000 calories a day, but I was still losing (I never really weighed, my "scale" was my work belt).
You didn't ask for advice, but I hope it is okay I am going to give you some. figure out a way to track your progress, whether it is a scale, measurements, or an article of clothes (mine was how my pants fit, and what notch I was in on my belt). Also, Keep a food journal and write down everything you eat, and what your weekly results were (moved the belt in a notch or 2, lost 3 lbs, lost 1 inch in waist, whatever). This way, if you hit a stall, you can return to a week when you lost well, and duplicate it. This is what I did, and I really feel that it was the secret to my success.

I don't think you can eat TOO MANY calories as long as your carbs are reduced to a ketogenic level. In fact, Dr. Eric Westman from Duke University has told me he would like to conduct a study that would include a 10,000 calories a day diet (mostly fat) to prove you will NOT lose weight eating that many calories. It's counterintuitive for us to think this way about calories, but we've been brainwashed for far too long.

Shoot, I'm starting to think it's hormones or something. I just ate two roasted chicken breasts (with skin, probably six ounces of meat total), some green beans, and a couple of wedges of Laughing Cow cheese. I'm still sitting here feeling hungry.
I'm just writing this because I'm at the office, and this place is Food City. For the last few days there has been a big jar of Halloween Snickers Minis around the corner from my cube. I thought about the damned things all morning, and when I got back from lunch actually went around and pulled the last five out of the jar.
They are sitting in my trash can right now, but they're really pizzing me off.
Hormones, I tell ya. . .

Jimmy, that's amazing! I wish he would. It would close a lot of mouths and encourage a lot of people, I'm sure!

The only problem, Valerie, is liability. Nobody wants to fund such a study because they think it'll kill the study participants. Plus, the meals would be unpalatable to most people--would have to eat sticks of butter, glasses of coconut and mac nut oil, etc. to get the fat calories to that level. I told him I'd volunteer to be a part of the study when he's ready.

Well, today ended up better. Less than 1700 calories, and SEVENTY PERCENT FAT, lol. I sort of blew it out at dinner. It's possible that I needed to start the day with much more fat at breakfast.

Make several gallons of that coconut fudge, and we'll all eat it on the courthouse steps! Blood tests before and after. EMS crew at the ready.
It'll be like the
first guy who ate a tomato in modern American historyWhen the ethics are up for grabs, researchers sometimes (still) elect to try the treatment out on themselves. That's a definite option.

Marla, that is FANTASTIC! As long as your carbs were reduced (and they were), your fat intake cannot be too high. EXCELLENT! WOO HOO!

Coconut FudgeThis is almost pure fat, which is why I suggested it. You can leave out the peanut butter and add unsweetened coconut or a small amount of nuts if your plan allows for that at this time.

I actually tried a random coconut oil candy recipe last night, and even though it turned out badly (I didn't mix it well enough, and I think I used too much DaVinci's to sweeten it), it was good enough to try again and get it right. I think that will be my "fat supplement of choice" from now on, lol.
I would like to try a peanut butter version. Wonder what would happen if you left out the chocolate?

I hear ya!
That recipe sounds YUM! I think right now, I'd have to omit the peanut butter to lessen the carb count, though.
Jimmy? Didn't you say that you were a big sweets eater and now you're not? I just can't imagine that for myself.
I'm also a HUH-YOOGE mac and cheese lover! Did you ever put ketchup on it? Now THAT'S the way I LOVE it. .

..wait...LOVED it. Past tense.

lol
Hugs,
Lori
