EVERYDAY LOW CARB COOKING - By Alex Haas

Tell us which recipes you've tried from this book and what you thought of them, whether they were great or duds. Don't post the actual recipes here because of copyright issues. If you've tweaked one of the recipes to come up with your own version, feel free to post it in the recipes section at the top of this forum.

NOTE: Let's use a separate thread for each cookbook that we review.

Quite a few of his recipes sound tasty but his recipes are written in a very disorganized manner. Usually the ingredients in a recipe are listed in the order in which they are used. Alex has his totally mixed up in no meaningful order whatsoever.

Kraft-Style Creamy French Dressing

This one was so bad that I didn't bother adding it to my website.

Salad Onions

He uses these onions in many of his recipes. These are very slightly pickled which helps cut the bite of the onions. I think they would be nice on burgers or any place where you would use raw onions. I didn't take a photo because they just look like chopped onions. After eating them a few times I sort of lost interest and wasn't sure what to do with them. I rated them a 3 out of 5.

One-Skillet Chili Rellenos

This is quick, easy and tasty. After 5 minutes, the peppers come out quite crisp. If you prefer your peppers a little softer, add a few minutes to the cooking time. Although I drained the grease from the meat as well as I could, a lot of oil seeped out when I served this. I used quesadilla cheese and I suspect that may be the culprit. Mozzarella cheese is a lot lower in fat so I may use that next time. The original recipe called for mozzarella. I rated this a 4 out of 5.
