I was reading in a magazine the other day the numbers for a healthy 1800/cal a day diet. I mean as in pro - carbs - fats.
What numbers are reasonable in a low-carb life style?
Any suggestions ?

wishbone,

Numbers are an interesting thing, but I don't know that they get the job done when trying to quantify what is right for each individual human being. We are all so different. What did we do before the concept of measuring our energy requirements (as in calories) came along. We listened to our appetite. I have a dog who is a slender, perfect weight. Her natural feedback system works beautifully. Just because it's time to eat doesn't mean she is going to. If she's hungry she's going to if not, then she doesn't even care if my other 2 dogs eat her food.

Having said all of that, I think the problem is we eat so much processed food it has messed up our feedback system. If you eat whole real food, plenty of fat, adequate protein for your size, and watch the carbs, your body won't need a calorie chart to know when you've eaten the right amount.

I like that. In a rat study they fed some rats just sugary drinks. Another group got sugary and artificially sweetened drinks. After a set time they let them eat their fill. The artificially sweetened group ate three times as much food.

It's hard to say exactly what this means. It could very well show that imitation foods can mess up feedback systems as Melodie noted. It's studies like this that make me cringe when I see all these low carb imitations of certain high carb foods, using Splenda and other various man made abominations. These imitations always lead to unnatural cravings.

eat whole real food

The real deal. If you can't eat it raw (the ability, not that you must) don't bother. If it's been "improved/invented/refined" by man, run from it.
