Does anyone know anything about this? I'm not talking about the just macadamia nuts and cream cheese fat fast. I googled this and have some recipes if you can call them that.
I have been doing Kimkins and K/E (mostly K/E) I guess....the ONLY thing I ever counted was carbs. I did great....46 lbs gone since June 17th.....no health issues or hair loss. Thank God! My doctor has given his thumbs up, he just wants me to stay on plan for 6 weeks and off for 1 week. I don't trust myself to have a week of free foods.....so that is why I settled on the fat fast. My weight loss has slowed down A LOT. I am quite certain I will not have a hard time going back on plan when this little fast is over. It is reccommended that you do this 3-5 days. I seriously don't know if I'll make it 2 days.....I'm hungry!
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Kristin

Hi Kristi,
I don't know that trading one lopsided diet for another is a good idea. Have you considered doing Atkins induction instead, for that off week. You would in fact be cycling your calories which is what many bodybuilders do to lose weight. It would give you a lot more choices, maintain appetite control and maybe give your metabolism a "kick in the pants" caused by the lower calories eaten on Kimkins. Good luck and check out the thread below.

I guess I will go read up on the Induction. I don't remember anything about it. Is it anything like South Beach?
I eat everytime I am hungry, I cook in coconut oil...I was ONLY counting carbs with Kimkins. So I don't know that I am in the same boat as some who took the plan to extremes. I eat peanut butter and cheese when I want them...just count the carbs.
I thought that Atkins was a good thing. The fat fast is his right? Not that I'm a big fan....cause like I said earlier, I'm hungry so I'm gonna go eat something....NOT more cream cheese either!
So....I am a bit confused about things right now.
Thanks,
Kristin

The Fat Fast had a very specific use... there were no recipes... it wasn't "meals", it was "feeding". And it was almost 100% fat, thus the macadamias and cream cheese, among other tidbits.
If you've lost weight, then you're not a candidate.
It was designed for only the most metabolically resistant, only under medical supervision. Done for the reasons that lots use it ... breaking a stall, losing faster... it's dangerous, and can ruin your metabolism.
It's discussed in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution... along with the warnings. Please take the warnings seriously.
You've already done enough with your metabolism, don't play around with the Fat Fast.
I can't believe your doctor wants you to eat only 1000 calories, of pretty much 100% fat, for 6 weeks.

Thanks for the advice and NO...my doctor did not tell me to do the fat fast ....I just started that today. My doctor told me to continue what I have been doing for 6 weeks off for 1 week. I am on Kimkins....but not really as it is written. The ONLY thing I count is my carbs. I stay under 20 a day.
The Fat Fast that I have does have recipes....IF you can call them that, they all involve lots of crm chz, with celery or whipping cream.....bacon to name a few.
I was under the impression that it was okay because it was from Atkins. I am only trying to break a stall.
Here is the link where I got my info...http://www.carbsmart.com/fatfast.html
In any case....this is NOT something I can stick to, I am too hungry! Thanks for your advice.

Kristin,
I was confused too. I went back and read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and it helped tremendously with the transition. I recommend grabbing copy and reading it BEFORE transitioning to Atkins. The only reason I say that is because in the past, I have "done Atkins" only to find out later I didn't know what the heck Atkins was.
You will be surprised at how misrepresented the Atkins diet has been not just in the media but even on low carb websites and you'll be amazed at how balanced (in the context of low carb) and individualized the diet is.
P.S. The fat fast probably doesn't apply to you...It's amazing you learned what that was before knowing what induction means. Seriously, read the book. You'll love it!

The link is clearly that writer's version of the Fat Fast... it's most certainly NOT what Dr. Atkins wrote... nor would Dr. Atkins have EVER told YOU to do it.
The purpose of the Fat Fast is not to break a stall...
that people use it that way... well... people will do all sorts of crazy things...
Induction isn't "under" 20 carbs... it's AT 20 NET carbs.
I suspect that until you actually eat ENOUGH food... including vegetables, you're not going to lose...
You've probably put your body in starvation mode...
If you want to do Atkins, then do Atkins... by the book!
www.atkins.com/articles/nutritional-approach
www.atkins.com/articles/atkins-phases/phase-one
www.atkins.com/articles/atkins-phases/phase-one/acceptable-foods/
www.atkins.com/articles/atkins-phases/phase-one/the-rules-of-induction/
And do ALL the phases... not just Induction.
You will not, probably, ever be successful at losing the weight and keeping it off if you just do Induction.

Okay....thanks I will check it out. I appreciate the imput. I got impatient because I have lost 46 lbs since June 17th....then hit a brick wall.
I do have another question for you.....is there a huge difference between South Beach and Atkins?
I find myself back at square one tonight.
I really do appreciate the in put.
Kristin
The slower you lose the weight, the more likely you are to keep it off.
Stalls are good practice for maintenance!
Are you "diet" shopping? I think you should read about Atkins and read about South Beach... and if one of those suits you "for life"... then go with it.
SB has a bigger emphasis on lower fat than Atkins. However, it's my OPINION that Dr. Agaston (who studied under Dr. Atkins) had to find his "gimmick" to make his money... thus, it's Atkins with lower fat.
It certainly works for some people... and for some it doesn't... it allows too many carbs back in too early...
There's no one but YOU who can decide what low carb plan you can life with "for life"... just don't fall in to the trap of looking at Induction or Phase 1 of SB as what the entire plan entails.
It's important, in my opinion, to read the book for whatever plan you're doing.
I've yet to meet anyone (even virtually) who has gotten to goal and maintained the loss without reading the book!
Don't be in such a rush to lose... give your body the time to learn ... and it's the learning what foods work for you that is what will make you successful.
Stalls happen... there's a whole chapter on them in DANDR... and sometimes one just has to be patient.
If low carb is "simply how you eat"... then you're on the way to making low carb a lifestyle change... not a diet.
You have to give your metabolism a chance...

Thanks again.....as you have probably seen....I am a lazy dieter. I like it simple and easy to follow. Not that I don't like to cook, I just like it all spelled out for me. It is VERY easy for me to just focus on # of carbs per day... and not count calories or fat.
I have my doctors full support in what and how I am doing it (except the fat fast part.....which lasted 1 day). I am not concerned about myself once I reach goal weight....which should be in about 3 months. Low carb will have to be lifestyle for me....carbs make me sick if they come form pasta and bread.
Thank you for all of your advice, I will study up on my options.
