I found this reproduced on Low Carb Newsline by Richard Morris, Science misses the real benefit of simply walking. It was posted a year ago, but I wasn't checking Low Carb Newsline back then.

Walking is my excercise of choice, along with weightlifting. My dog likes her morning walks and that motivates me to crawl out of bed.

Walking is low impact. It's nice to get out when few people and cars are out on the streets and check out the neighborhood. It only requires shorts, t-shirt, & shoes, things you would have anyway. Of course, you need sweat pants & sweat shirt for the winter. If you have a dog, your dog will benefit too. No need for doggie diet pills. You will just need a leash and plastic bag for the doggie-doo. smile.gif

I have been walking my dogs for quite a while (this is our 3rd one), but now that I'm slimmer and in better health, I've picked up the pace. What used to take 30 minutes now takes less than 20. While I'm at it, I can daydream, work out problems, and even pray. If I have something to mail, I can walk it over to the post office early. I can explore new areas of the neighborhood, all while improving my health.

If you are looking for some exercise, you might try walking. Go at your own pace. Try picking it up for short intervals. Walking, plus my low carb lifestyle has helped me lose 110 lbs and control my diabetes.

And Richard quite literally walks the walk, too, Dan! Check out my interview with him about his amazing weight loss success story as well as my review of his book A Life Unburdened.
