Hi everyone,

I had noticed there were quite a few of us on SB but there wasn't a specific thread about it. I am glad it's now here for those of us to connect and share our successes and ask questions.

I'm on SB Phase 1 and intend to remain there a while. I'm a Kimkins refugee and still not able to look at a carb, but I'm trying to follow the phase 1 quidelines and adding lots more veggies to my meals. I also occasionally indulge in a little fruit (which I can't tell you how much I have missed!), but I always keep it to a half portion and only choose the ones that are low-GI.

We can even post our daily menus if that would help.

Whatcha think?

Hey Amy. You got your Southbeach thread, but I bet you didn't think you'd have to work that hard to get it. LOL. Just kidding, congrats on being a moderator. It's really a lot of fun and makes you feel good to help others.

Thanks Melodie! Got the thread but no one is posting, so maybe I'm the only one on SB...?

Hellooooooooooo out there...!

Hee hee! They'll come, Amy. How about posting some of the basics about the diet for those who are interested in it? You can pin and close these topics using your moderating tools. HAVE FUN and let me know if you need help. smile.gif

Well, maybe I'm alone on SB...? Even so, I'm sticking to it and maybe I'll just have this thread to myself. I hope not.

I ended my day with 1107 cals, 65 fat, 36 carbs, and 96 protein. I think it's okay. I'm fine with the cals, fat and protein, but would have liked the carbs closer to 30. But some of my mentality is coming of KK, so I need to accept that 36 carbs is okay. Especially since I didn't need any laxatives! wink.gif

Please join me! Let's go on this journey together if SB is your chosen plan!

Hi Amy,

Just came across this thread and I am considering starting South Beach. I joined kimkins on June 6 and lost 35 pounds over the course of 10 weeks. For the last month I have been struggling over my eating. I am an emotional eater and since the kids have started back to school and we are already in high stress mode with homework and projects I find my reaction is to grab everything sweet to eat. I have gained back 6 pounds already and am petrified that I will return to my previous weight.

I like the sounds of SB but need to do some more research on it - seems more complicated than kimkins but more manageable long term. The reason I am reluctant to continue the kimkins WOE is that I guess as a result of the stress and lack of nutrition my hair is starting to fall out.

I so badly need to get back in the frame of mind of watching my carbs, etc. I am heading to they gym for the first time in about a month and am considering signing up for some personal training. Wish me luck!

Thanks for starting this thread and I hope we get to know each better through it. I am 39 years old and have 4 kids (ages 10,9,9,5).

Hi Caroline!!!

STOP! Don't panic! Just put down the (insert high carb food preference here) and walk away! wink.gif

Glad you're here from KK. I really think that WOE has messed up our thinking about food.

As I mentioned in the "basics" post, the reason I like SB is that it's low carb, but not NO CARB, so there are some good foods there that I think God intended us to eat: fruits, whole grains, nuts, etc. I am counting carbs and trying to keep them under 40 and keep my calories around 1100-1200. Some days my menu looks more Atkins-ish, and I'm okay with that. Most of the time I'd rather eat more fat if I have to, than carbs. So like in a restaurant I would choose something fatter instead of carby-er. KWIM? But I try hard to focus on lean meats and my 40 carbs are coming mostly from some dairy and lots of veggies. Instead of the KK thinking where I would look for 2-3 lb losses a DAY (and be mad at myself if I didn't do it and blame it on the 1 pickle spear I had) I am now looking for 3lbs a week loss. If I can do that, I'll be down 25 by Thanksgiving and would be thrilled.

Feel free to look at my fitday if you want. I just got started back with it yesterday, but also posted everything I will be eating today.

I am also going to try to break my scale habit. If I want to see 3 lbs a wekk gone, then there will obviously be days when I don't lose, and I don't want that to kill my motivation. I weighed today and will try not to weigh again until Friday morning. Can I do it? Dunno.

Are you a SAHM? I am, sort of. I have 2 kids, 7 and 3, but I run an in-home daycare, so M-F from 8-5 I am a mom of 6 toddlers/preschoolers. Pray for me please. blink.gif wink.gif

Hope your day is a blessed one!

I might peek in occasionally as my plan (after the 1st 2 weeks) is very similar to SB. Though mine has more portion restrictions and does allow smaller portions of even the higher glycemic fruits. (Only rarely eat those though). My carb count is usually between 60 and 80 net.

Hi Lisa!

Well, if you're doing 60-80 and that's net even, then I guess me sticking to 40 is okay because you've had fabulous success!

Doesn't look like this will be a very active thread though. Seems most people are on Atkins.

Well, Amy, it's here for those who want to do South Beach, so feel free to post any information about the plan to help educate people about what it is. THANKS!

Hi All,
I think I am going to start SB. I was on KK for 6 months and lost about 60 lbs and I have been going up and down lately. I have been reading about SB and think it may be the best for me. I know I have to do a low carb plan but not a no carb type situation and I thing SB will retrain my body. I too have to get used to not expecting to lose everyday. i am going to try and weigh once a week...well maybe twice. *lol*

Hi Nicole and CelticHorse! Sorry I just now saw your posts. It's been a super busy weekend since DD came home from school on Thursday w/fever of 103.6. Strep throat strikes again.

How's it going? Any questions? Keep your food lists handy, but also a GI counter. Since the food list for SB is so much wider than a lot of plans, you'll not want to get carried away. I've found for me personally that I have to keep my carbs a bit lower - more like around 40 net - if I expect to lose.

Be sure to fill up on those veggies!
