I only lost 4 pounds during my 2 week Induction phase. Now I'm supposed to add another 5 carbs per day and I feel bad when I go over that magic number of 20. I know that I'm still in ketosis because I check my strips every morning. I kinda miss that distinctive smell that I had when I was on Kimkins. I know that's gross but it made me feel like I was accomplishing something. I'd heard so many stories of people losing weight quickly with Atkins. I know 4 pounds SHOULD make me happy but I wish it were more.

4 pounds in 2 weeks for somebody already in "diet mode is great!!!! the large induction weight loss amounts are for folk changing to low carbing from a high carb not on a weight loss way of eating.
You didn't have any glycogen stores to shed you didn't have any fluid stored with that glycogen to shed. you shed 4 pounds of body fat woo hoo for you!!!
up those carbs with the healthy low glycemic rung one induction acceptable veggies and become a healtheir smaller person as your health your body and morph it by adding back lean body tissues as you shed the fat mass.
Happy low carbing

I agree! If you aren't carbed up your not going to see a big water loss. Thats good!!

I stayed on induction longer than two weeks. I needed that time to make sure I completely changed the way I ate instead of treating it like a diet. I stayed at induction levels for four weeks before I started adding in extra carbs. I really credit that for keeping me from going "hog wild" once I was able to start adding previously "forbidden foods". I have found that I just feel better the lower my carb level. Remember also that adding 5 additional carbs may not knock you out of ketosis. I stayed in ketosis at 30 net carbs a day.
Some people can eat more carbs than others and lose or maintain. You're going to have to find the level that is right for you.

I do not know anything about the Kimkins woe, so I cannot fully address you issue, sorry. Also, I have never done the strips, because I was told by an Endocrinologist that they were not very accurate.
As far as you losing 4 lbs. during induction. I was a little taken aback that I did not lose more during induction myself, but then I started reading exactly what the intention of induction is. The induction period is a jumpstart for your weightloss, but more it is a way to detox your liver, and help your body transition from a carb burning machine to a fat burning machine.
Also, it may be possible that you were not strictly eating induction foods. I personally had a bit of a slow start, because I was including items that I thought were induction friendly, but in fact were not (also, they were not on the induction foods list). There are a lot of products that came about after the rules of induction were written, and I was taking advantage of too many of them. I was also not really reading labels, only looking at the nice little counts they provide. If I saw low carbs, I would eat it, but recently I realized that many low carb foods still include sugar and corn syrup.
I agree with you, adding in carbs is a scary feeling, because most of us perscribe to the "if its not broke don't fix it" way of thinking, but it really does get easier, as long as you pay close attention to the way your body is reacting to each addition. Again, I know nothing about Kimkins, but it seems like many people lost a great deal of weight very quickly, and I can see what a high that would create, and why it would be difficult and scary to move on to something that is a little slower.
Hope this helps. I know it is probably not the answer you were looking for.

You should give it a bit more time. And remember there are many who always stay below 20g, permanently. You also didn't mention how much animal fat you are consuming as it seems most Kimkins folks have this unrealistic fear of fat (especially animal fat).

I'm with Guss, JediChick. Fatty protein and exercise are the ticket. I'm still only a 30g carb per day person and I'm on Maintenance. Instead of adding carbs, I recommend that you shorten your menu for a few days. Get some fatty protein and 20g vegetables that you like and keep the same meal plan for a few days. See if you continue to lose. If you do, then add additional food. Once you've established a pattern, then I would move to Ongoing Weight loss and continue in the same vein.
This should give you some control and teach you some things about your metabolism.
Best regards,

I've never tried salmon with cream cheese, but I may have to. Sounds delish!
