Full Version: Where's the South Beach thread?

Isn't it a pretty popular plan? I'm doing it in Phase 1 now as I'm transitioning of KK, so I'd love some friends on this same journey.

Is the real difference between Atkins and SB mostly in the way fat is looked at? Does SB have too many carbs? Will I regret doing the "net-carb" thing?

Right now since I am a refugee from KK, I am still scared of anything that resembles a carb, low glycemic index or not. Won't it be freeing to look at an apple and think "I can have a slice or two of that"!?

I think SB has some faulty reasoning in it -like Saturated fats are bad. When there is no proof of that.

That being said, from what I see it's a good plan, because as you increase carbs you lower fat.

I have seen some great success stories on SB. biggrin.gif

Lucy,

I could have sworn we had one, but I can't find it either. You certainly could start one here. Just put it out something like "Anybody else doing Southbeach" and see if there are others out there who are following the same plan. Welcome to our forum and best of luck to you!

I'm happy to start a South Beach thread, but I need a MODERATOR who knows the ins and outs of that plan. That's my prerequisite for starting a new forum thread outside of the "All Other Low-Carb Plans." Any takers? Please PM me.

Hi, South Beach fans!

I'm really pleased to see a South Beach thread! I have had some success with it in the past and have read all the books and magazine articles about it, and, as Jonny Bowden says, it is very "user friendly." He gives it five stars. The many cookbooks and magazine articles keep it rolling along, as well as the fact that it was developed by a media-comfortable cardiologist.

Some people love South Beach, and, even though I do not rate it any better than the other good plans, I believe it has a place here and that it is good that we offer support for those who use it.

We are all different. Our bodies are Designer Creations. Let us celebrate the inclusiveness offered here for individual differences!

Once again, thanks, Jimmy for responding to people's needs in a meaningful way!

Love in the Spirit that unites us all!

Jazzy...we really must be cosmic twins! What are the odds I'd find this thread, and you at the other end of it? Talk about finding the post/pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or, in our case, the begining of the rainbow!

This is YOUR forum, so I'm happy to fill the need when a suggestion arises. biggrin.gif

Well, I only had success with SB Phase 1 (but missing the forbidden fruit SO badly). When I went to Phase 2 the newly allowed grains did me in. I just can't handle grains, even in small amounts. Not only are they trigger foods, I get arthritic symptoms, so my body is telling me something. I guess I've always known this, but was in denial for years.

So I found the Paleo Diet, which is similar to staying in Phase 1 all the time, but more generous in other ways, and with my beloved fruits allowed. It works well for me.

That said, a lot of people find great success with South Beach. I am one of the few that agree with the limitations on saturated fats. Also, I think if grains are not a trigger/physical problem for you, South Beach can be a good plan.

I am forever grateful to SB, because my success with Phase 1 led me to researching the Paleo Diet which is a perfect fit for me.
