Full Version: Jonny Bowden rocks

Last night I had the chance to sit down and read the first part of Jonny Bowden's Living the Low Carb Life. He totally rocks. user posted image If you read the history of low carbing, there is a complete, footnoted explanation of why a low fat low carb diet is BAD for you.

I just wanted to encourage anyone else who is having trouble with the mental transition from KK in any form to please read this book. I found it at my library. It explains why you need the fat in your diet and the chemistry behind it in REALLY easy terms. I found this book very reassuring and re-affirming. Since I hadn't been LCing for a couple of years, I didn't know about this book or about Bowden. I am very impressed with what I've read so far. (I have studied nutrition as part of a natural health course I'm taking and I was happy to see Bowden lean on some of the experts I've come to trust, like Mary Enig. All that study and I still fell prey to the lure of Kimorexia. mad.gif )

I have been struggling to overcome my fear of fat and have been a little panicked that I was either going to hit the plateau from Heck or gain. Well, I've lost another pound in the past 2 days, so no stall. I still find myself balking at eating beef, and I still use Walden Farms dressing, but I'm pouring some high quality olive oil on my salads, using cream in my coffee, plus adding ground flax seeds, and enjoying a bowl of yogurt every night, real, whole milk yogurt, sweetened with vanilla stevia and doctored with some high quality powdered probiotics. Yuuuuuummmmm.

And if I play my cards right, my hair will stop falling out. blink.gif

Jill, I agree about Dr. Jonny Bowden. He is indeed AWESOME!!!

In my review of his book Living The Low-Carb Life, I called it the MUST-HAVE book that should be on the shelf of EVERY low-carber. It's truly amazing!

I had the privilege of conducting an interview with him last year and he returned the favor by interviewing me a few months ago on his radio show.

Check out his latest book called 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth for a list of some VERY healthy foods. Can you believe FATTY foods like butter and coconut oil are on the list?! I can and I highlighted them in a YouTube video I recorded today with Christine. We're gonna upload it tonight.

YOU'RE DOING FABULOUS!!!! Don't give up, Jill.

I could not agree more with you about Johnny Bowden. Since I read this book last year I have considered it my "Low Carb Bible". It is ALWAYS within reach....well except maybe this week. I am moving and NOTHING is within reach!
Johnny's book along with Barry Grove's new book and Atkins 72, and I am set for life smile.gif

Low carb is basically a carnivorous diet. Olive oil and ground flax seeds are a poor substitute for animal fat. Saturated animal fat is your friend.

So much of what these new books are talking about has been covered years ago at Barry Grove's site.

Love the new pic of you at your book signing. You are one hunky guy just like your other avatar professed.

Can't wait to see you and Christine's in the new YouTube video.

Atkins worked for me 7 yrs ago and I'm confident it will work again this time. I'll pick up Dr. Bowden's book tomorrow since I'm still having a hard time understanding that (good) fat won't clog my arteries.

Thanks again for all your info and support.

THANKS Carole! It's a major paradigm shift of the mind to think that it is the SUGAR that is gumming up your arteries rather than fat clogging, but it's the truth and TRUTH is TRUTH whether you believe it or not. It's better just to go ahead and trust rather than waste your life worrying. biggrin.gif

I appreciate your kind comments. It's been an amazing journey so far and the best is yet to come. My new YouTube video on fats is now up and running!

Hi Jiller...

Your hair...your crowning glory...so sensual that in some cultures, or religions, it must be covered--is it any wonder we're all losing it over losing it?

I wonder if any of you feel about your hair, and self esteem, the way I do (I'm chosing to change that self image from "do," to "not any more." tongue.gif ) WhenI was a Threetopper, pretty clothes, great shoes, and jewelry were non exixtant in my wardrobe. My taste in clothing was "whatever goes around me." Cut outs on shoes were an obese woman's version of foot binding, with marshmallows of fat painfully strangulated through the decorative holes, and heels a death wish. I wore tennies and flats. And rings, bracelets, necklaces--not on this body, or my circulation would be cut off.

But my hair? That was a different story! I could be a trend setter with my hair. I could be as up to date, and stylish as any movie star, just by twisting, or curling, or straightening, or coloring my tresses. And, yes, on the darker side (I'm writing about emotions and self esteem, not roots! tongue.gif ) I hid behind my hair. I wanted it to send a message to the thin world that I was not slovenly, lazy, dirty, or unfeminine. With my hair "coiffed,", and my makeup darn near professionally applied, I felt like I was suitably armored to walk among them...the normal people. They might see a big body, but they'd know I wasn't a slob, and maybe they wouldn't make rude comments. They'd know that at least I hadn't completely let myself go. (Now, why it mattered so much to me, what "they" thought is the subject of a lot of sweat equity I'm putting in, rebuilding my self image, and, more importantly, my self respect. sad.gif )

Several months ago, I read an article in Oprah, and it adressed the millions of women who hide behind their hair. I thought my response was unique to being obese, but here were accomplished, beautiful women--women who could wear belts, even, and they used their hair to garner respect, or to feed their fragile egos, just as I did. You know what? I finished reading that article, and then I liberated myself--I had seven inches of hair cut, and it feels great. But that was by choice...it's an entirely different matter when hair loss is not by design.

Anyway, here are some sites that I found helpful. For most of us, hair loss is not alopecia, it's simply dietary and stress induced, and it will grow back, as these sites explain. So I'm not going to get all in a tangle.

Chrysalis

Once again you touched my soul.
I've never seen hair as beautiful as yours, thank God it will come back.
