Maybe I should pop into the Fifties forum to find out if it's really possible to survive this unsure.gif . Sometimes I feel fine. Other times it seems that life is just one long PMS. I used to bounce right back and know that I had a couple of weeks of feeling great, then a week of feeling OK before the next decline started. Now I just get hints of feeling better for a day or two here and there. Often I just feel feeble and don't want to deal with anything. Of course, this is one of the bad times, and I may be perfectly OK tomorrow. The uncertainty and unpredictability is just one of the new things I'm learning to live with dry.gif .

I'm not expecting an answer, and I'm not ready to start on drugs/hormones - I just wondered if there were any fellow sufferers around?

I had the same symptoms even thou I am a man. I had a journey looking for answers from different doctors, psychiatrists, you name it.
Finally I went to a physical exam and the doctor found a slow thyroid problem. He immediately put me in Syntroid. The first 2 - 3mohts I felt like a superman. I had a new lease of life. After that my problem came back with a vengeance. I struggle for almost a year and looking for answers I found some internet websites very interesting web sites.
They were talking about different drugs for thyroid and they said the synthetic hormone does not work well. They recommended a natural drug approved by the FDA but natural. This drug (armour thyroid) is a porcine disecated thyroid so some people don;t like it because it came from a pig.

This really works, I have been using armour for several months, a lot of energy, I am going to my gym again, I feel great.

I just wanted to share this with you, because I know how you feel.

Greetings.

Low thyroid seems to be a common problem for this age group - especially those who've been losing weight sad.gif. I've been reading Schwarzbein recently. She writes about how inadequate nutrition can decrease thyroid hormone production, but she also says that if your thyroid hormone deficiencies are nutritional rather than glandular, then thyroid hormone supplementation can make you feel better for a while, but doesn't fix the real problem, so allows the underlying problem to continue to deteriorate, and it can actually make things worse. (Note - she's not saying that taking thyroid hormones when you need them is a bad thing, just that they're not always the right answer.)

I need to do some more reading in this area. But it won't hurt to be more conscientious about taking my supplements. I've been neglecting them a bit recently.

Yes, Armour thyroid is a prescription medicine. Not many doctors want to prescribe it because it is old and the new one (synthetic) is pushed by the big pharmaceutical companies.
You need a prescription to get armour thyroid.

Well, like I said the thyroid problem does not have a solution, I don't believe in helping the symptoms and not curing the under lying problem. My thyroid is enlarged, it is not a tumor, it is not cancer, just enlarged so that is causing the lower production of T4 and T3.

There is no fix for thyroid problem, only help with supplementing the T4 and T3 that your body is not making it. I believe most of the problem are caused for this gland and People are not aware of it.

If you find a doctor who can prescribe it that is great but it is difficult to find one. I don't know if it is against the rules to publish url's but if you want you can go to:
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/thyroiddrugs/l/blletter.htm or http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ if this is against the rules please feel free to edit my posting. In case you cannot see the urls make a google search for thyroid drugs in "about" web site and another search for stop the thyroid problems.

I hope this helps. wink.gif
